USB Ethernet adaptors and drivers

Quick question - if you plug a typical USB Ethernet adaptor into a Windows XP PC, do they just work like USB flash drives, or do they require a driver that they come with to be loaded?

I'm considering buying a few as a workaround for some networkign clunkyness at work, but have never used them before and want to know if driver software would be required.

Thanks!

yes they do. If they don't come with the required drivers, they should be easy enough to find online

Not all of them need drivers. I have an old Netgear & Farallon USB1.1 that work in 2K / XP without having to load drivers. My Linksys, Zonet & Netgear USB2.0's require drivers.
