USB Enclosure won't work --- Code 10 Error

I bought a USB 2.0/1.1 Plumax 5.5" enclosure... I'm starting by trying to get my computers to read just the enclosure and am having no luck on two computers... I try to automatically and manually install the drivers and no matter what I can't get the drive to work... The farthest I have gotten is getting a code 10 error on one of my computers...

Any ideas why this isn't working?

all info on what OS are you using will help...

But mostly the reason why it did not work (assuming your enclosure is not defective) is that your os did not have the update service pack installed.

You should not manually install any driver for USB device unless it said so in the manual. If you are using 2000 ot XP, try to install the latest SP from Microsoft and see if it works..

I see. Well..make sure your driver jumper setting is correctly set.

Hmm... There isn't a jumper on the USB enclosure is there?... You're asking about the drive I put in the enclosure, right?

Well, I can't even get the enclosure to work properly on my PCs. Right now I'm working on getting that to run fine, but I did try using a DVD+RW drive and a hard drive in the enclosure and neither worked. I tried the jumper on all three settings for those drives...

Well..you have to install the optical drive within the enclosure before u do any testing. Computer is not going to recognize the uSB connection just by the enclosure itself.

Really? I read that you were suppose to install the enclosure first... Damn chenglish instructions...

Any idea if a Khypermedia DVD+RW would work with this enclosure? If it's a Benq that may be my problem...

Not so sure. i have never use that brand before. But normally it should not be a problem for regular optical drive....i guess...try install it first. And if it works out. For XP OS, it should not need drivers for most USB enclosure.

Get it working, if possible, with the HDD, not the burner. You will either need to set the drive to master or single. The HDD should show up as an unformatted drive.

The USB chipset meaning the chipset your mobo uses. Intel (ideal), NVidia (poor), SiS (good), VIA (pretty good), TI chip (good--not in mobo chipset), Agere chip (not in mobo chipset, dunno how good they are), etc.. It makes a difference. If you have a NVidia chipset and you can't get it working still, take the enclosure (with HDD) to someone else's PC, or one of a different chipset, and see if it likes it any better.
