USB drive that fits on keychain?

Of course they all have keychain loops, but is there one that is nice and compact yet durable?

I've seen the lacie stuff, but I have some concerns with quality.. I'm also not sold on the 'half height' usb connector stuff.. In my experience USB is already a fairly delicate connector type, so I'd like to have something where I don't have to worry about the weight of 2-3 keys hanging off the end of the drive...

That's the best I've found so far, and it still has one of those half-height connectors...

I like the looks of that, but if I were you, I wouldn't hang my keys off of any drive while it's plugged into a port. Use some kind of quick release to take it off your keychain when you use it. One of those tiny aluminum biners, or quick release barrel locks would work well.

The problem with all of the quick release deals is that they end up making my keychain too long which bumps against my steering column or leg when driving..

Hmmm also found this

Looks like it might do the trick...

Here's my fave - the Lexar Firefly. The soft plastic cap holds it snugly on the key ring, but the drive itself is used untethered. I have one on both my car keys, and keep them sync'd. They don't fall off the key ring, and the keyring never hangs on the USB port.

Durable? You bet! Been using several for over 2 years - never lost one - never had a bad one. And they keep getting cheaper. Bought my first one at a Circuit City store before they closed. 🙂

That should work. The lid snaps on pretty securely. It would take a good deal of weight on it to pull it off. And you can pull it out of the lid and put it in a computer and not have keys hanging off of it.

I keep one of these on my keychain. It's never come off, and I use it all the time. It's compact, durable, and inexpensive. I even cut one of these up to insert it into a Lego as a gift.

I like this except that eventually the nubs on the cap will wear out and I'll lose the drive. This is something I can't lose.

Also (like many usb drives, unfortunately..) there are lots of reports of repeated early failures.

Thanks but all except the patriot have those half-height usb connectors. The patriot actually isn't bad, other than the color kills a little bit of my soul.

There is also orange. :awe:

Though I'm not sure why your concerned about the half-height connectors. If anything, they are more durable than the standard one because there is no metal shield to be deformed. The traces are actually quite wide and well-secured to the plastic substrate. I have one of these SuperTalent Pico drives (doesn't meet all your requirements, just an example) and since it is one solid lump, I would consider it to be my most durable USB key

When Corsair came out with the Survivor USB, I was hooked. The thing is extremely durable and I have never lost my keys since the two are together.

Ended up buying one of these from fry's:

It still has the 'non-hooded' connector but it appears sturdier than most of the 'wafer thin' connectors that seem so common with these tiny USB drives.

The attachment ring is riveted in place, I'm a bit skeptical of how long that will hold. I may end up drilling a small hole in the metal case and putting a ring through that.
