I plugged in a Sansa Clip to a side USB port, and immediately got this error. I restarted the PC, and at that point nothing USB connected will function. I was able to recover the (USB) mouse by attaching it via a PS/2 adapter, but the keyboard is not playing nice.
I have removed the keyboard drivers, restarted and installed again. Shut down, plugged in the keyboard and restarted. Nothing.
I have tried a new power supply on the off chance it's going tits up, but the keyboard still does not function.
PC has 4 rear USB ports and 2 side ports. None work at this point. In the Device Manager, clicking the USB Controllers tree shows this error. The "Unknown Device" one. Nevermind the Hub listed, this is all I could find on the web that matches my general appearance. Disabling and enabling the unknown device, then asking to update drivers through the Device Manager only told me I had the most recent drivers.
Windows XP SP2
Microsoft keyboard and mouse
No recent installs of software
I'm going to either reformat or try a USB PCI adapter. Anything else I should try first?
Thanks.
