I'm having a with my USB drive in Windows 2003 server.
Heres my system specs:
P4 2Ghz, 1Gb ram
30g - System drive (OS and program files), IDE pri
160g - Storage and network shares, IDE sec
500g - Backup & xtra storage, external SATAII on USB2
Windows 2003 Server R2, all updates current
MySQL Server, IIS, File server role
The problem is with the 500g SATA usb drive. Drive will run ok after a reboot, but after a while explorer stops responding whenever trying to access anything on that drive. The only way get out of that is to turn off/on the power on the drive. Also I often get a windows msg "windows could not save on the drive, disk may be corrupted" after I turn off/on drive works fine.
I tryed to reformat many times. I even have another identical 500gig drive which had the same exact problem, so I'm def sure its not a hardware fault, but more windows2k3 settings. This setup worked perfectly fine in XP pro.
Is there some setting I must change in order to run external drives correctly?
