USB does not work

I just purchased the Epox 8k7a motherboard and I am unable to get the mouse to work with USB. Whenever I plug the intellimouse Explorer into to the USB and restart the computer, the red light on the mouse goes away and it is as if the mouse is shut off. Any help would be greatly appreciated
 
I had the exact same problem after I installed the USB filter driver on the epox cd. It works now, but I can't use my usb extenstion cable though.
