Hey guys, I've made some posts here before. As you all know, I upgraded my computer and installed Vista. The computer is working great. I've worked out all issues except one.
When I first put together the parts and attempted to power up for the first time, I plugged the following in the computer: Monitor, power wire, mouse, and keyboard. Of that, the only thing that was USB was the mouse. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard, but I did not plug those in yet, I plugged in an old keyboard and mouse. I did not attempt to plug in the speakers. I got the "USB Device over current status, shutting down in 15 seconds."
After looking around on the Internet, I decided to remove the back panel that covers the motherboard connections with outside hardware b/c I thought the prongs might be making the computer nutty. Once I removed it, I was able to get to the desktop.
Since then, I plugged in my wireless keyboard/mouse which uses USB. No issues. I attempted to use my zip drive, which obviously is a USB device. No issues.
Let me explain how the speakers work on my computer. I have a sound card that is in a PCI slot. The speaker wire, which is a single wire with a lime green tip. I plug that into the sound card. The computer starts just fine with the speaker plugged into the sound card. Then I have 2 more beige wires which come from the FRONT of the computer and goes out through the back of the computer. These wires have lime green and pink tips. These wires plug into the lime green and pink holes at the back of the motherboard.
When I plug the speakers into the sound card, I don't get the USB Device Over Current Status. But when I attempt to plug in the lime green/pink wires into the back of the motherboard, that's when I get the message.
The odd thing is, I had those two wires plugged in for a short period of time last week and it was working and I was getting sound. I'm not sure what I did, but now it's giving the overcurrent status.
I'm not sure why it's giving me USB over current status when it's not even a USB outlet. How can I fix this issue?
Thanks for your help.
