USB Device Not Recognized

Hi guys, I'm having some USB Drive problems, it be great if you guys can give me some help, I have been googling for the last 3 hours and I and can't figure this out. So, the problem is exactly like the title, my computer can't seem to show my USB drives properly, it will not show it on My Computer, every time I plug the USB drive in one of my USB ports my computer gives me an "USB Device Not Recognized" error. I have try the following.
A clean Windows installation (Windows XP SP2)
deleting Daemon-tool and the related system32 files.
Went to Device Manager and rescanned for new hardwares..
Unplugged everything from the computer for more than 30 mins
Yelled and cursed at the computer...
Punched and kicked it..
I'm running out of options..

is it just one drive or any usb device? And does the drive work in any other machines (if you unplugged a drive from another machine without using the safely remove hardware you may have corrupted it which could explain the problem). If the drive has its on power source try unplugging it from that for a few minutes, then plug it back in, then try the usb again. Check to see if the drive spins up (vibrations should be obvious or if it has any lights).

have you installed any special drivers your mobo may require? for example, my mobo (ASUS A7N8X-X) needs me to install a special Nvidia USB driver so that the USB2.0 will work. but you haven't answered any of jkresh's questions which would help us a lot. does the drive work in a different computer? have you tried different USB ports? does device manager show everything as ok?

answer these and we'll continue from there.

Remove all other USB devices, and then hot plug the one in question. Sometimes it happens when the USB 5 vdc power gets more than it can handle.

If that works, then get a powered hub. If this device is a HDD, then chances are it must have a separate power source other than the single USB cable.
