All you have to do is use one on the "approved" list, and it will allow it.

Ya. I think i would be cool to have a rasberry pi with a 3g dongle and see what people do with it.

Haha, That was my first thought as well! I can just picture people breaking the USB or their laptop trying this.
 
The concept is really cool but people would just vandalize it. Better off making public wifi networks that have an FTP server or something. Could have a universally recognized name for the SSID or something.

That's actually a pretty good idea but hard and expensive to start.

Also, I would definitely hook that shit up to an electrical socket that feeds 1000W on the 5V rail or just fucking put an breaker right before it and reset it whenever I want.

Though this totally did give me an idea though, could do it with a wireless network like I said, but in a self contained device. Basically a cheap wifi router with a raspberry PI. The data is then stored on either the PI itself or an external USB. The whole thing could be packaged into a small neat case with battery backup and probably be able to be made for under $100. People could put them in their homes and stuff. The software on it could also mesh with any nearby ones that are in range and create a bigger mesh/cloud network.

Yeah that is kinda more complicated than a USB stick shoved in concrete though. :biggrin:

I totally want to do this now.

The pirate box sort of does this. You actually don't need a router if you get a usb dongle with access point mode.
 
Side note: At work, we have a computer support person who is a bit of a ditz. I noticed that someone had thrown out a presumably busted electric stapler. My thought is to attach a USB cable to it and then ask our computer support individual if I could get the driver for the stapler loaded on my machine.

You would? Have you ever asked yourself what kind of person would do such a thing?
 
Super dumb idea. Seems like a good way to break the USB, or the USB port on your laptop. Laptops are heavy and awkward to hold with one hand. And then to try to fidget with transferring files? Good chance to of dropping the laptop.

Why is he going around defacing public property?

That one scene in the subway station where he puts the USB into some gray clay material...yeah, people won't think it's some kind of explosive device, especially when after stuffing that thing under a pay phone, you go and hook up your laptop and stand there in an awkward position.
