I have a Canon Pixma 4200 printer. It works fine. It worked fine on my previous computer. I made a new one recently with an ASUS 79X motherboard. The problem I have is that the usb cable from the printer to the computer doesn't fit in the new motherboard's USB slots for some reason. I can get the connector part-way into the USB slots on the mobo, but it doesn't go all the way in flush like it should. What are some possible solutions here? D:

Ummm, I would say off hand you are trying to connect the cable the wrong way around or have the wrong slot. However with nearly 2k posts I doubt any experienced computer user would fail at that....??

Try a seperate USB cable and see if it goes in like you think it should. It could be either a slightly longer plug on the printer cable, or maybe the way the mobo is mounted in relation
to the case cutouts. Cutouts may be just a tad too small.

Most of the members here are male, so we are visually oriented.
Post a closeup macro shot of the plug in the slot.

I'll have to post a shot, and the USB cable connected fine to my previous computer. I've tried other usb cables in the slots of this new computer, and they connect fine. The one on my printer cable IS longer than most I've seen though..

is the motherboard mounted correctly? pop off the I/O shield and see if the connector goes in correctly.

Does the printer still work? If so, don't worry about it...

You say it works fine, but I'm not sure if you mean the printer is tested functional on old build fine or it works with the new build fine.

You are not trying to plug it into a firewire or eSata port are you. Some recent computers are coming with Firewire and eSata ports on the back.

Nope, USB port. It's not the port either, my keyboard and mouse both work fine off that port, and plug in fine.

nope, doesn't work at all. I mean it turns on, and works fine when attached to another computer...just doesn't work with this one.

Might just be an especially snug fit if its a brand new connector.

Try pushing a little harder? Maybe turning off the lights might help? (sorry couldn't resist) :)
