Question USB-C or not for 27" 4k monitor?

My 24" 1080p monitor is badly in need of an upgrade. I'm ready to upgrade to a 27" 4k display. USB-C seems like it could future-proof it for a while (I buy new monitors very rarely -- I've had all of two over the last maybe 17 years?). Worth the trouble of finding one? Thanks, and generally happy to receive recommendations -- I use it mostly for work: writing code and such so a gaming refresh rate is not high on my list of desiderata.

Edit: to be clear, I'm largely looking at the USB-C question for future-proofing, per my history of buy and hold, so to speak.

I got my buddy the 28" 4K UHD HDR Benq 1ms model. Got it on ebay direct from Benq, REFURB, for like $208. Not a bad deal.

4K monitors came down in price a lot but for whatever reason USB Type-C ports seem to command a very high premium. I have no idea why. Is it for display input or just as a USB extension?

That's what I want to know. If it's just for more USB ports, just buy a (relatively) inexpensive USB hub (they make them with Type-C connections these days now too), for $20-30-40, and put it on your desk.

USB Type-C premium on this model is $130. Ugh.

If that's not used for display input, then that's quite the premium. You could buy 3-4 USB Type-C hubs for that price, to put on your desk.

Well, for me at least, it's easier to fit on the desk if it's a "flat" screen, rather than "curved". YMMV.

I also do more productivity than gaming these days, so the "gaming immersion factor" of a "curved screen" isn't so much for me personally.

If someone does mostly gaming, then yeah, would agree with you, with a caveat that they need to be sitting the "proper" distance away from the screen, to get the best effect of the curvature.

I thought a USB hub is even cheaper than that. For $130 it'd better be something else.

At 30" and larger it is difficult to see everything on screen without moving head. I have a 32" UHD monitor sitting in front of me and that is one thing I wish I knew before I purchased this one.

Thanks for the rec. I wish I could go that big. My desk (which I also can't make bigger because of room constraints) won't fit such a big monitor.

The idea is future-proofing. I don't expect I'll buy another one for many years. Am I thinking too hard about it? And yeah, the premium on them is pretty crazy right now!
