I just purchased a new Canon 1560 printer which is USB 2 ready. I have a USB 2 PCI Card in my system. Question: Is there a difference in USB Cables? I have a USB cable that is several years old. Will it still give me USB 2 connectivity?

Thanks.

I have a cable that came with a USB 2 drive enclosure. It looks the same and doesn't have any special markings. Try your cable, see if the speed is what you expect. Also try it in a USB 1 port and see if there is a difference.

There is a difference , but no-one seems to know. it is probably just a better grade of wire/insulation as it seems logical that if you put 40 times more stuff (technical term) through the cable it might get a little warm and either a, increase resistance or b, set on fire as you are printing out your 1000 page thesis. I wouldn' t risk it for the sake of five pounds. Ten maybe...

if the cable is less than 6 feet, I doubt you'd notice a difference, the usb2 cables have slightly more insulation(and probably greater twists per inch) for less noise.
