USB 2 hard drive install help

i just installed an ALi USB 2 card and it's behaving weird

installed the card fine, but when i plug in my USB 2 external hard drive windows gets hung up on the "USB Mass Storage"

any ideas?
 
Are you sure it is getting hung up, or is that process completed? When I first plugged my drive in (a new drive), I had to initialize it before it would work. That means partitioning and formatting the drive. I was thinking something was wrong with mine as well. If the drive is already formatted, then that obviously isn't it. Have you tried any other usb devices in it?

mikepeck: it works fine on the USB 1.2 ports and on my laptop
