Hey All
Here's my question, a lot of the new mobos will have USB 2.0 but some of them don't so if I got a mobo that didn't have USB 2.0 in it could I then buy a USB 2.0 card (if they have them) to be put in a PCI slot and have the new and greatly improved USB 2.0 ?

Thanks TP

What if you hook up a hub to the USB card? Will the hub ports be USB2 also?

Only if your hub is USB 2.0 compliant.

Anyone know of any actual USB 2.0 compliant devices available now in the market? I'm sure there are some cameras but what else?

Good question. I know you can buy fairly cheap PCI USB 2.0 cards some even with firewire as well. But have not seen any devices either but I am sure there will be soon. Kind of a bummer though. I already have a hub and devices that are not :(. Wish thery were.

two type of devices i have seen that use usb 2.0... external cd-rws and harddrives, they seem to be a bunch ($30 or so) to their firewire counterparts

For high bandwidth devices, Firewire is probably the best bet for now. Much more mature than USB 2. The cards are as cheap and the peripherals are the same or cheaper than USB 2. Plus, Firewire can provide I believe up to 15 W of power, enough to power stuff like external notebook drives, etc.

Yeah, you gotta watch out if you buy an USB external CD-RW drive. You will be forced to copy/read at much slower speeds without USB 2.0. In the instance I'm thinking of it was 4x with USB 1.1 vs 24x with USB 2.0.

Does anyone know if the final USB 2.0 drivers for Win2K are available? Last time I hear, they were still in beta.
