usb 2.0 question

ok, im helping my roommate update his computer, but have run into a question. i know a little bit about computers, but not a whole lot. I mean i can plug a card into a slot, but thats about it.... enough about that, heres the question:

he bought a usb 2.0 card with 4 slots. I installed the card, and its working, but is only recognized as usb 1.1. do you need a special motherboard, or controller or something to have sub 2.0, or should i be able to fix this with new drivers?

You need SP1 unless the card came with specific drivers or a patch. USB 2.0 support was not included in the original XP.

try uninstalling/deleting the usb root hub associated with the card in device manager then rebooting & let windows refind the drivers!
