got one when dAv first posted (thanks, dAv!!). It replaced a rear slot connector with 2 mb ports and has been running my 1.1 hub without a problem.

as for what you can run with it, roncarter, practically any 3.5 or 5.25 ide device on your system can be put into an external case, including hard drives, cd-rw, dvd-r, tape (does anyone use tape anymore?), etc. i think the best thing is portability and security - i've already lent my external drive to a friend and he loaded it up with movies and games. i use another as a backup device, storing images and movies.

there's lots you can do...

CompGeeks used to have a firewire/usb 2.0 combo case (the one I got); they seem to not be selling them anymore. A quick search on Pricegrabber found this one. There are others out there. Once you load the drivers for the USB 2.0 case, any device you put in there can talk to the computer through the usb port. Very easy, but, personally, I prefer firewire - no drivers needed! Just plug it in and it works.

nealh, I run XP Pro and all function perfectly.

For you camera people out there, I also copied 50 pictures (about 130Meg) back on to the card after I had edited them with Qimage Pro. It took about 20 seconds to reload the card!

Then took the card to Wal-mart's 1 hour photo and had them printed for 29 cents each. (Snapshots from vacation)

I installed USB 2.0 on a P3 450 computer, you don't need a big processor to benefit from it.

Correct. You can buy these external cases (some are 5.25" some are 3.5", some are USB 2, some are USB 1.2, some are firewire, and some are combos of all the above) you can put CDRW drives, DVD drives, hard drives, almost anything that uses IDE. Then you plug it into your computer often using USB. So this would be good for instance to get a cheap 60 gig hard drive, and use it as external storage for switching between home/office computers or laptop/home computers, or even external cheap backup solutions. You could also share a CD writer between computers/laptops etc. The cool thing is, no need to buy super expensive external equipment, just get standard IDE stuff and the case.

I just received my USB 2.0 card from Buy.com. I noticed that the packing slip does not have the price listed. I am wondering if this will be a problem when submitting the rebate form.

Anyone know?\

thanks

your current usb1.0 devices won't experience any benefits... but its a great deal, and good to have for the future. i have an external hd that i can connect via 2.0, so i think i might get one myself :)
