usb 2.0 mb running only usb 1.1?

I have a computer that the documention says it has USB 2.0, but when I plug in a USB device, it says it can run faster on a 2.0 port. It should be 2.0.

I have a PC400 system board M922LU that has a Northbridge P4X333 chipset and a Southbridge VT8235 chipset. The documentation says it will have 2.0 compliant but it doesnt seem to be so.

Is there a way I can test the speed?
Is there drivers to make it a 2.0 from a 1.1?
Why would it not be at 2.0?

Here is a website of the board with all the info.

Any help is appreciated.

It's likely that the USB 2.0 drivers aren't installed for your USB chipset.

You are running Windows XP?

In Windows XP Device Manager, check out the Universal Servial Bus Controller properties. You should see a "USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller". If not, something's wrong.

Also, if you are using front USB connectors, be sure that they can handle USB 2.0 connections. Antec made some cases with front connectors that would prevent a USB 2.0 connection.

The bios may or may not be. Not sure. I have checked this before, but cant recall if I did or not. will update this later when I check.

I checked to see if the USB 2.0 enhanced was shown, it is not. As on the website, the download for the USB port does not say it is XP compatible. Should I try to use it? Where else would I get it?

What version of XP are you running? You need at least SP1 to get the built-in USB 2.0 drivers. I'd install SP2.

A quick check of UseNet postings reveals that there have been problems with the USB 2.0 drivers on VIA-chipset motherboards. If SP2 isn't finding the 2.0 device, check the driver CD that came with your motherboard for USB 2.0 drivers.

You might also try deleting all the USB devices in Device Manager and seeing if Windows can pick up your device on the next reboot.

If all else fails, buy a $10 USB 2.0 card from Newegg.com.
