USB 2.0 Help -- Resolved, Thanks!

In my current system I have the P4T533-C MoBo which has 4 USB 2.0 slots. I just got a scanner for Christmas and it says that it uses USB 2.0. However, when I plug it into one of the USB slots a message comes up saying that I need a HiSpeed USB Host Controller or something like that, and that my scanner will run at reduced speed. What's going on? Is USB 2.0 not activated or something on my MoBo? The scanner works fine, but I'd like to get USB 2.0 working.

Any help is appreciated.

what operating system are you using?

and are you sure you have the scanner plugged into the usb2.0 ports? there are 2 usb 1.1, and 4 usb 2.0 (with supplied backplate).

You need the SP1 patch for USB2 support

Not...all 1 has to do is go to the update site. I had USB2.o working way before the SP1 patch was released...it is, however, included in the Patch.

I downloaded the SP1 patch in a Windows Update a while ago. I went in and looked at my history of downloads at the Windows Update Site and it says that the SP1 patch failed. When I scan for updates it doesn't show SP1 cause I already tried downloading and installing it. So how do I get it to work?

if i am correct, you can download it from windows update-->drivers and then select usb 2.0 controller(or something that sounds like that)
please confirm this

aaah, I've been looking all over, I can't find the right thing. Can you give me a link please? Sorry for the inconvenience but I keep getting links to windows update, where it doesn't show the right stuff.

I updated XP with SP1 and it said something about me being a dirty rotten thief pirate and quit working!!

Does anyone know if a new patch is coming out to fix this??

😀

Ok, sorry to waste thread space!

Hello GodSpeed,
Just to point out something that U might have forgotten ... Have U checked the Device manager to see if there are any Yellow ! marks where the USB Controller section is ... Only reason I say this is because I had same problem , but fixed it by installing the USB2.0 drivers that came on a CD with my mobo ... I would try to check the website for the manufacturer and see if they have the USB 2.0 drivers for d/l.
Hope this helps

Cripes I thought it would be easy to find the Windows XP usb2 driver but I have just spent half an hour serching and come up with nothing, it seems Microsoft have it tied in to the SP1 patch. can you not find a third party driver that matches your hardware, your mobo maker for example.

AAAAHHH, I just looked on my ASUS MoBo disk and sitting there on the opening screen are USB 2.0 drivers. I really should have checked there first. 😱
Well thanks for all of your help.
