i bought a usb 2.0 external hard drive enclosure and for a while it will not work with my p4 system, works fine on my laptop and amd system... my current setup on this comp is an intel stock board 845PE P4 2.66ghz 533mhz fsb, 2x 512 micron pc2700... it detects the new device but i cant access the drive ever... any one with same problems, also running win2k sp4

What operating system did you format it in? What file system did you use?

I've seen this problem when I formatted a drive in NTFS (in XP) then tried to hook it up to a Windows 98 machine. Driver detected, but hard drive never came up; I think Windows 2000 should recognize even XP's version of NTFS, but I'm not 100% positive.

Okay, all 3 systems use Windows 2000 SP4?

Plug it into your P4 system, make sure the driver loads and you get that message about your device being ready to use. Then right cick on "My computer" and go to manage. You should see "disk management" on the left. Click on that. Does it list the external HD there? If so, does it have a drive letter assigned?

it lists it, and says its not mounted, i try mounting it, but it still doesnt work... it does list it and give it a drive number but i can access it ever unless its on a different comp

Well you definitely need to mount it. And make sure that it's assigned a letter, not just a number. Make sure you tell it to "activate" the partition on it. Right click on tie drive in disk manager, thats one of the options you'll see.
