If I thought it would help, I would immolate myself
In full view of the camera crews, my counterclaim
But as we all know, the only tale that would be told
Would be that it was me, not them, who was insane

JFC… it was uneasy to watch that, even in censored form, but that takes a lot of balls and he clearly died doing what he thought was right. I don’t disagree with his message but it’s a tragedy that someone so young gave their life away. I hope his death is not in vain.

A woman also self immolated in front of the Israeli consulate in Atlanta in December to protest the genocide of the Palestinians but the police seem to have successfully suppressed her name from ever getting out.

The only people who will give a shit about Aaron Bushnell are the people who give a shit about the people of Palestine meeting the same fates, but not by choice. Which is almost none of the US government.

It's sad this was blurred out. This man chose to have people see him die as the ultimate peaceful protest against genocide.
Sorry...that shit did nothing during Vietnam war protests either.
A rather large portion of the world doesn't give two shits about Russia (or themselves) committing Genocide however they see fit.
This notion that human life even has value comes distinctly from the better nature of western civilization, one we too often fail to honor ourselves.
It is not logical for one to sacrifice in this way for this cause.

It is better to live and act against. To vote so long as we still vote.
Those who side against such violence lost strength from his sacrifice.
Those who endorse it REALLY couldn't give a shit.

Look at Russia, who scrape their people off the streets and throw them at another country to be used as human meat waves - under threat of torture and death. All for the purpose of causing a new Genocide in Europe. To forcibly displace 44 million off their land. And that is current history that is still ongoing. Every day this year, more humans discarded as meat. By a nation MANY nations side with and endorse in this action. China and India. By any account, a majority of the human population fully endorses Genocide for the sake of Genocide. Not to defend oneself, but to eradicate the other.

The Palestinian issue being much smaller does not make it any less wrong. Though the level of violence sparking this current round does throw shade.

Our world is a lesser place when we have fewer people who care, who want a better path. People who could turn opposition into action. If they all immolated, no one would be remain who even cared if the rest of humanity was served up on a platter as fresh meat. And I for one want one of those people to have my back. Someone who cares if we live or die. For, if history is any teacher, we are desperately going to need more of them. For ourselves and our loved ones.

Gotta love the officer keeping the gun trained on him the entire time. Actually shocked he didn't let off a few rounds at him "just in case".

Sorry man, human life is just as cheap in western civilization as anywhere else and the United States is the most bloodthirsty nation in the history of the world. Iran ain't wrong when they call the United States The Great Satan. I can't vote to stop the genocide in Israel, as Biden is Netenyahu's lapdog.

Wouldn't have been useful. If I was Aaron I'd rather have taken the bullet than the fire extinguisher since the latter only prolonged his agony.
By the time the officer arrived on the scene with the gun, it would've been too late to end Aaron's agony. Once the burn becomes third-degree, there's no more nerve endings left to feel the pain. It's readily apparent in the silence that followed those dozen or so seconds of Aaron screaming that a bullet wouldn't have been too late.

So the proper public safety response to a burning human being is to shoot them? Well I guess that’s a take

Are you serious? Now, I can only provide anecdotal evidence, but during my career as an RN, I worked the burn unit at Drs. Hospital in Augusta, GA…back in the 80’s it was considered one of the better burn units

They hurt all the freaking time. Giving a third degree burn its daily bath (gotta remove the eschar) and you’ll see crying, bargaining, anything to get us to stop. IV morphine did very little to help. 3rd degree burns hurt.

Now, get them snowed a bit and on an air bed (bed that uses small glass/ceramic beads as the resting surface and air is blown up thru them from below—u really do float) to relieve pressure, sure, no pain.

Naaa…lying. If not for the drugs, you wouldn’t stand the crying.

RIP.

It is disturbing how it seems they have tried to keep it quiet.

I just learned a person did something similar to this last December. They weren't active duty and probably didn't record themselves.

I'm of the same mind. Clearly the fellow was convinced this was a necessary action, but I have to question if it was the best use of his life. If he expected to be the catalyst that would kick off a huge pro Palestine movement I guess it makes sense, but I also think he was mistaken if that was indeed the point. Killing himself to make a point certainly proves deep conviction, but it doesn't prove he was correct in his assessment of the situation.

It ends up being just one more wasted life.
