US announces withdrawal from TPP

The new U.S. administration of President Donald Trump said on Friday its trade strategy to protect American jobs would start with withdrawal from the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade pact.

A White House statement issued soon after Trump's inauguration said the United States would also "crack down on those nations that violate trade agreements and harm American workers in the process."

The statement said Trump was committed to renegotiating another trade deal, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which was signed in 1994 by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

"For too long, Americans have been forced to accept trade deals that put the interests of insiders and the Washington elite over the hard-working men and women of this country," it said.

"As a result, blue-collar towns and cities have watched their factories close and good-paying jobs move overseas, while Americans face a mounting trade deficit and a devastated manufacturing base."

iPhones are too cheap. TVs are too cheap. Americans are ready to pay higher prices. People don't want drones, they want couriers. He's gonna bring back all the old jobs we used to have like Longshoreman and coal miner. Maybe even break off trade with mexico and screw the agriculture industry (which deserves to be screwed).

i am really hoping he gets on to cutting obamacare. we need to get this shit show on the road, no point in doddling along at the precipice of a national disaster when that thousand foot drop is calling our names.

In the case of the iPhone I'd say apple can dial their profits back a bit and consumers can make some effort to own them more than 18 months. I have experience in this topic.

So we all need to lower our standards of living so Trump Trash can compete for a shitty job? How about we just tax the profits of trade and give them welfare?

Pull out of NAFTA unilaterally, defund the UN, leave the WTO, abrogate all treaties and agreements Trump considers unfavorable, and slap a 50% tax on all imports. This is the changed you wanted blue collar America.

Blue collar workers wanted hope. Hillary's nose was too long for her to look down and see them, so many picked Trump. People who have needs and no voice which speaks for them makes for poor choices.

China must be licking their chops. If we're out of the picture they can make deals and service those countries that were tied to the TPP.

No, they went out and bought a scratch off ticket and will blame everybody else when it doesn't pay off. Hillary as least in part offered some solutions for their plight but some amount of personal change would have been required to meet that. This psychology which refuses any personal agency or external assistance was easily exploited by a man with no morals and no real interest in helping those people.

So one size fits all? Never met a group where that applied before. Muslims are terrorists and blacks criminals. Well, no. People are far more complex than you might want them to be. Were some as you say? Sure, but let me know if you situation becomes hopeless and you have a family to provide for. People who are vulnerable make poor choices, or it this only blue collar people? Can't use that broad a brush.

Trump voters are actually slightly more affluent than average. If they're desperate it's all in their heads.

The group I'm referring to tipped the election to him based on the rationale that I outlined.

Were I in a precarious situation I would not have chosen to gamble away the few supports I had on a group of people who routinely promise to take them away. I, fortunately, am not in that position but still voted against my financial self interest in order to help protect those vulnerable people. The answer to his question of "what do you have to loose" is about to become painfully evident to those same people.

"Yes we can!" & "stronger together!" were met with "Screw you, bitch! And screw the horse you rode in on!"

It's that "I am John Galt!" mentality all the way down.

wow. This part is hahaha:

I laugh at the zealots who say the grand canyon was formed by the flood. I see flooding all the time as do most of us and except for some localized erosion nobody sees giant canyons or other extraordinary examples of erosion taking place that dig down for such great depths.

I cant believe people like this actually exist.

Again with those lies.
You are painting a broad brush (national average) over very specific rural Americans in swing states that changed the election.
You going to tell us Appalachia or the Rust Belt are affluent?
