What no aircraft carriers and nuclear attack subs?

China could never outlast us in a real war. They have no real reserve resources. My bet is they would start starving to death after 3 months of conflict. Attack their infrastructure and they would roll over. Most of the country has no real technology.

On the other hand they have all our debt. But if we conquer them, we could write it off.

What are you smoking?
You know how large the chinese army is.......sheese.....they made us back down in Korea and they didn`t even fire a shot. All they did was populate the ebtire surrounding region with so many troops we backed all the way back to the 38th parrallel.

Then look at what these 3rd world countries have done...take Viet Nam....

One thing we don`t want is to get in a ground war with China.
Sure we have more minitions, etc.....but they have way more troops....

And when was the last time we take on another big country? Whenever USA attack another country in the last half century, it's usually some tiny "primitive" countries that we know can't resist us much, if at all. No, we dont' want to take on big countries, because we know while we could do a lot of damage, those big countries could hit back at us big time, like USSR could have.

And speaking of USSR, with the way USA is spending like there is no tomorrow...

The hell they didn't, if it weren't for the ChiComs entering the fight we would have made short work of the North Korean Army.

Exactly! The chinese entered and almost overnight we retreated to the 38th parrallel.
A good description of the event went sort of like this..One morning we woke up and the hillside looked like somebody had puored pepper all over the place, as far as you could see. Nothing but chinese...lol

I think this action has two audiences: American Public and the Chinese.
To the Chinese, this isn't a show of force in the sense that we will attack as much as it is a show of 'yes we can'. The point is you have the Chinese trying to harass the USA out of what they claim to be waters (but is actually international waters). So as long as we operate within agreed distances, then we are fine. Obama is simply saying, "Watch me do what we are allowed to". Chinese government bitching isn't going to change that, and sending more ships there establishes that.
To the American Public, it is a show of force. To pull a Fox News, there are some who say that this president is weakling who will be pushed around internationally. Sending warships after a minor 'annoyance' that the Chinese pulled is a direct statement saying "Watch me act like a tough guy"

What is the real result? People thinking Obama is less of a pansy, and China knowing that it has to wait until it has real military power to try to enforce something like that...or try with another administration in 4/8 years

Magomago is again awesome:beer:

True, CNC forces were unprepared for the Chinese onslaught, but if you read the description of the Chinese forces at the time of the armistice, they were nearly combat ineffective. The US tired of the war, and had we decided to pursue it again, we could have pushed past the 38th parallel and taken over a significant portion of the peninsula -- the political will was lacking, not the military strength. The Chinese had very little supply chain capacity to support their force.

Further, if anything, massive quantities of troops are a liability, not an asset, given how rapidly modern weaponry can destroy troop concentrations (look at the initial invasion of Afghanistan). The Chinese understand this, finally, and are pursuing a high technology military, not a people's mob -- mostly because they finally have the money to afford one.

The Godless Reds did the same thing to Bush in the first 3 months of his administration - but it was a little more serious.

One of our spy planes collided with one of their fighter jets (you know how those Fly Boys love to play chicken) - the fighter jet lost, crashed in the ocean killing the pilot and our spy plane had to land in Red Territory. They sent back the crew rather quickly while demanding an apology but kept the plane for 5 months or so.

My thoughts at the time were to paint ""We Apologize"" on the side of a few Tomahawks and ....

Geez, this has got me wondering if we have any lightly armed destroyers. I mean, wouldn't you just naturally think that destroyers are heavily armed. Do we have a fleet of lightly armed ones we use when we don't want to be intimidating?

:laugh::laugh::laugh:
