US puts up $20 million for Gaza relief

Very strange. I wonder what backroom negotiations are going on for ending this conflict, and what concessions and to whom the US is giving? Well, at least we can say we arent only for Isreal support.

Story here

WASHINGTON - The Obama administration has made an emergency contribution of more than $20 million for urgent relief efforts in the Gaza Strip.

The contribution came Friday, a day after the United Nations launched a flash appeal for $613 million to help Palestinians recover from Israel's three-week military operation there.

The State Department says that President Barack Obama authorized the use of $20.3 million from the U.S. Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund for humanitarian assistance to the 1.4 million Palestinians in Gaza.

The money will go to U.N. agencies and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Those agencies are distributing emergency food assistance and other relief.

I believe we have been giving aid to the palastinians for awhile. Though it may have been suspended whem Hamas came to power in Gaza. I believe we still give aid to the cronies in the West Bank.

I think the number I saw running around was about 40-60 million\year in aid.

It is not really a war when only one side has a military, and the money we give Palestinians is basically just backhanded apology as we continue to support Israel's conquest over their homeland with far more money, weapons, and diplomatic power.

yeah, well it is pretty much. Just that one side is well-funded & the other has the moral support of the majority in the area.

they should be able to build many rockets with that money.

They get that money from Syria and Iran and whatever other sympathizing nations...

Calling this a war is like calling Mike Tyson beating the piss out of Garry Coleman a fight.

And Palestinians rights are supported by not just the region, but the vast majority of the world and the International Court of Justice. It is pretty much just Israel and the US who insists on denying Palestinians rights in favor of keeping them held under overwhelming military force while colonizing their homeland out from under them and killing off anyone who gets in the way.

I doubt it's 1st time the same group of people supported both sides of a war. 🙂

As Bilbo said in Lord of War ... paraphrased ... sometimes we want both sides to lose 🙂

How man billions have gone to the Israelis (last year alone)? I agree that both sides should get squat.

Why is it the US responsibility to clean up after Israel's mess. If they can afford a war they damn well better be able to afford the reconstruction.

We always end up paying for our mistakes. If not immediately, maybe a decade or two in the future.

We supplied Saddam with weapons in the 80s. We've spent $1 trillion+ going after him 20 years later.

If we're subsidizing Israel's wars, we'll end up paying for it in the long run.

It isn't. Our donation is being done purely in our own self-interest as a state.

You DO realize that the only reason the Israeli's can afford a war at all is that they are our single largest aid recipient. In fact, they get about 1/3rd of ALL the foreign aid we disburse world wide, and . . .

The 2nd largest donee is Egypt. Why do we give so much to Egypt? Because they were willing to sign a peace treaty with Israel.

Just saying.

It's too bad the Palestinian government is too corrupt to put this money to good use. Instead it will go to fund more attacks against Israel, which in turn will cause more Palestinians to be slaughtered. Nothing will change. The killing will continue.
