That's weird if it's true. His whole story sounded really odd to me (not unlike Nick Berg's in that respect), and I guess it's possible the terrorists felt he would be of more PR value as a free man than a dead one. It's not totally clear to me that he himself was not complicit in this, but it's premature to start drawing conclusions at this point.

I wonder what and where this current 'safe place' he was released to is? I'm with DonVito, it's fishy, but I'd sure like to know more about this before I call shenanigans.

I think it was because he was a Moslem from Lebanon (or was it Libya) and the clerics refused to allow the "turrists" to execute him.

Good for him and his family. Hopefully this will allow more Americans to see the peaceful ways of Allah and the teachings of Mohammed.

Ever since the first one, Berg, you know when these guys get captured they're thinking the worst. It's a miracle that this man was let go.

Q for the vets...are POWs who are let go allowed to go home?

 for Corporal Wassef Ali Hassoun

miracle ? excellent for hassoun and family but the circumstances of his capture and the
stipulation for his release - if true - point to an agreement with the captors that was not
diffciult for hassoun to make. hassoun was purportedly caught by these cretins after he
absconded from his unit and the captor's agreement with their arab prisoner was to, in
effect, support hassoun's original intentions. a little fishy, methinks.

Yahoo! News is reporting he deserted. I probably would have too if I was in his shoes, killing his countrymen daily.

So the Lebanese are the countrymen of Iraqis? Or maybe you meant "killing his religious brethren daily." In which case US Christians shouldn't have fought NAZI Germany?

No, actually I mean murdering Iraqi civilians on a daily basis, ruining Iraqi lives, and marking it all off as "collateral damage" in a sham war.

Murdering Iraqi civilians? Do you know the definition of murder?

Last I checked, it is the insurgents who are murdering the Iraqi civvies. The US military may be responsible for the accidental killing of Iraqi civvies, but that's not murder.

Sounds like you've got a wire crossed somewhere.

I vote for most ignorant post of the day on this one.

So how many of Bush's pre-war reasons to attack Iraq have held truth? And no, "Saddam is an evildoer" does not count.
