I actually like the way it looks. Now how much for the one in the pictures with the leather? $16k, then I'll test drive it. Anymore than that and I'm already looking at the Honda Fit.

This is meant to battle the Honda Fit...not slide under the Honda Fit...or are you saying you'd only buy the Ford if cheaper than the comparable Japanese car.

exactly

Same here. I *really* like the 2010 Fusion. If that was around when I got my Accord, I definitely would have considered it. Maybe next go around I'll look at the similar Lincoln MKwhatsitsface sedan.

Hah, UK prices and the VAT thing make for some insane pricing. You can also configure Focus RS into the $45k range IIRC.

There is no way in hell Ford US will offer a $30k Fiesta. I'm thinking we will see $12k-$15k typical OTD pricing, with even less when stacked with seasonal rebates / year end closeouts. Should be a good deal. Some of the UK/Euro trim levels, like the ones with Navi, ECOnetic, and the 140hp model, etc, probably won't make it over.

Something that bothers me a little bit : the Fiesta we're getting is the Fiesta Mk6, which began for model year 2008 production in 2007. It is due to be replaced in 2012, perhaps for the 2013 model year, but that could also mean being replaced in 2011 for the 2012 model year. If that is true, then we will only have the global Fiesta for 1 year, two years at most, before Fiesta Mk7 hits. What I'm worried about is the US Mk6 Fiesta being held over, while the rest of the world moves on to Mk7.

Yeah, watching Top Gear is always funny when they say the price of cars. Yeah, some of them are much differently equipped than what we get here, but still, they'd say like "the new Civic with the 1.8l petrol is £17,000" or close to that. I believe that was when the pound was worth close to two bucks.

I have a real time updater on my desktop and as of this morning it's 0.615 British Pounds to 1.00 U.S. Dollar.

Starts at £10595 on the road with all taxes, though. It's a bit high on the entry price for it's segment. Hmm, as I typed that I looked up the Renault Clio, one of the best in the segment, and that starts at 10,120, so it's on the money.

You don't like small cars. That doesn't make them shit. £10k is cheap, but you can go as low as £6k if you want to. You won't want to though.

Price is relative when you live in a country. Comparing prices between countries is at best misleading.

They don't exactly have a choice in several of those countries. The UK hits cars hard with the VAT, plus insurance rates are insane and the fuel is heavily taxed.

Where did you get those dates? The current Fiesta went into production August 2008 and was on dealer lots in September.

According to the Fiesta wiki, the previous generation was on sale for 6 years. I don't think we have to worry about a quick replacement.

Firstly a Wiki cannot be used for future announcements of cars and secondly I would expect it to be no more than a refresh.

I never knew specifying reality is trolling; subcompact tiny little coffins here are generally cheap and purchased by people with little money because they are not desirable. We don't have streets built for horses and garages built to fit go-karts, everyone packed in like sardines, so the practicality of a small car is just not realized.

*sigh* Look, I understand YOU don't get them. You haven't even clapped eyes on a decent small car, let alone driven or lived with one, so your opinion is really of very little value. If it is not suitable because you need to haul stuff or 6 people, then just move on. The fact it doesn't suit your need does not make it a shit car. An R35 Skyline doesn't 'suck balls' because you can't get 800lb of sand in the back, does it?

I've highlighted the trolling for you as, even though you have been here for some time, have forgotten what it is. It's your M.O. See 'Skoorb effect', except you keep posting in this one. 😛

pricing in europe is nothing like pricing here, anyway. for many global companies, cars costs almost as many euros there as they do dollars in the US, despite the currency exchange.

if he just wants to claim that every 10-15k economy car is worthless, well, that's his opinion. and it's kind of retarded.

a 4 year product cycle? the last one was 6 years.

and mulally seems to hate the concept of selling completely different platforms all over the place. i could see the tooling happening in germany before mexico and thailand for each model. but he really is pushing to get ford's global supply chain in such shape that any factory building, say, a focus, could build a focus for any market.

I'm making a simple point: small cars here are typically bought by people on a shoestring budget and in turn that's why the subcompacts here are so lacking in amenities and power. Cars in Europe are small. People there put up with it because they have to.

Yet we have versions of these cars with between 200-300 Horsepower, so I guess we win. 😛

We 'put up with it' because its all that is necesary, why drive an SUV or truck, when for the majority of the time all thats going in the boot is the weekly shopping, and if we need to carry the same number of 4 passengers that you may need to, thats fine because these cars are 5 seaters..

All it is, is that we don't share the same "Bigger is better" mentality as you seem to have..

Don't be so narrow minded, the size of your car doesn't indicate how big your balls are, If your view is typical of Americans in general, you really do seem to be a culture of excess.

Don't shoot the messenger 😉 I'm just saying how it is, people love big ass vehicles here. SUvs are generally pointless, but other large vehicles aren't. I can throw a 4x8' sheet of ply in the back of my minivan!

Anyway, I must admit I am not contributing any positive spirit to this thread so I'll stop hatin'.

Companies that you can buy that sort of stuff from offer deliveries at not much cost in general..
And unless you're in the trade, how often are you going to be doing that?

Alot of extra space and weight in the off chance you may need it is excessive..

But yea, we'll leave it at that..

This is interesting to my interests.

I drove my cousin's ~05 Fiesta 1.2L in europe, and it was a dog, but kinda interesting for the 1/2mile that I drove it.

If this fiest came with a 2.0L or 2.3L duratec... I'd be VERY interested.

I've been thinking about this, home depot offers truck rentals for like $20. Even if I was using a truck once a month it would still be cheaper than getting a pickup instead of a small car.

The 188-hp inline-4 will likely power all Fiestas in the U.S. Expect zero to 60 mph in less than 10 seconds.

WTF? ~190HP Had better propel that thing to 60 in less than 10 seconds or something is really, really wrong.

EDIT - just read more of the article, looks like that's a typo and it should have said 118HP 😛
