Six, I can only float four.

We're closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter but only get paid for the first two.

I can float New Years, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and July 4th, or get paid but I like the time off.

And I get an extra dollar an hour if I work on Sundays.

Pretty skimpy on holidays but I suppose they make up for it on ETO (Earned Time Off), which can really add up to insane levels after you establish some years of seniority.

Isn't this why European economy is imploding?

At my work, we don't get any official holidays off unless we request a vacation day for it. If our day off falls on a holiday, we have it off otherwise we have to work the holiday. But we do get time in a half if we do work on a holiday. And no pay birthday off either unless we request a vacation day for it.

Too bad we can't get rid of some of these days as paid holidays for federal workers. We no longer need a holiday for Columbus or anybody's fucking birthday. They could take Veteran's Day, Flag Day, Memorial Day, and Independence Day and celebrate them all on July 4th. And if we actually did separate church and state we wouldn't have any religious holidays, not that I am in favor of doing away with the Christmas holiday.
I wouldn't have a problem with federal workers getting all these holidays if they did anything but sit on their asses and get paid significantly more that the average citizen working in the private sector. The US hires way too many employees, and I think it's time to make it less attractive to be a federal worker. They could probably take 75% of those jobs and make them part time, < 35 hours per week. The workers could then pay their own way for health care, retirement and all the other wonderful things they get. As far as I'm concerned they could make every Monday a non-paid holiday for all of them.

9 + 2 floating

it will become 1 floating, if Jul 4th falls on a Tue or Thu - making it a 4 day weekend.

We get 10 + 2 floating holiday, 5 personal and then how many ever vacation days you negotiate. I figure I get about a 32 days off where I don't have to pretend like I'm working. However, they did take the majority of my soul so they still win out.
