US Democrat Socialist Convention

Holy shit, is this thing real? This is an amazing clip, liberals being liberals, it sounds like satire by South Park. This is the spearhead of the revolution..? L O L

Glad none of those types are elected politicians. Wish I could say the same for the people from the video I posted. I posted something that is fairly mainstream with the left, you posted fringe.

I highly doubt the actual Democrat Socialist are all that bothered by gendered language and the use of gendered pronouns.🙄

Come to think of it, wasn't it the Communist who first came up Political Correctness?

BTW who made the big uproar over gendered pronouns in the Far Left anyway?

I believe the term "political correctness" itself started on the far-left, partly as self-satire or a mild criticism of over-earnest comrades. Though I suspect it was employed entirely seriously in places like Mao's China. In the UK it was always 'ideological soundness', and I still resent the cultural imperialism involved in the US term driving out the traditional one.

My first memory encountering the concept was a hard-leftist of a more "workerist" type who'd been to some union meeting in the course of a strike expressing utter exasperation at the way it had been sidetracked by some 'middle class types' into a debate about language (if I remember correctly, included a discussion as to whether the term 'blackleg' for strike-breaker was racist) instead of organising the strike.

Looks legit. DSA took the YouTube links down but their website page is still in google cache.

One day of live stream that they left up.

I don't know who this guy is but he's funny.
Even if it's legit (and I don't care either way), only an incredibly dishonest, or politically-blind, person would claim those views are more mainstream than Richard Spencer's.
Not all of us live in the bubble of ATPN. Anyone who visits the right wing bubble can see that Spencer's views are actually very popular with that crowd (usually framed under some version of the narrative that the Founding Fathers intended America to be an exclusively white Christian nation and that everyone else should be 'sent back.')

This was a global event and they could not even fill the small hotel ballroom. Seems mainstream to me.

DSA is obviously not mainstream left but some of the more interesting moments at the convention are funny. Richard Spencer and the alt-right are seriously fucked up.

Whoa.. that's totally more mainstream than a standing room only Trump rally where they're chanting "Send her back" about a member of Congress because she's not a white Christian.

Yet the alt-right's views are de facto mainstream conservatism now.

Two examples of this:

- Before leading his Proud Boys in a brawl on NYC streets, alt-right leader Gavin McInnis was at a GOP banquet where he was the guest of honor.

- On May Day this year in Portland, alt-right Patriot Prayer leader Joey Gibson marched his followers several blocks to a brewpub where purported antifa members were gathered. When they got there, the alt-right started a violent brawl (2 Patriot Prayer members were arrested and charged with assault). The chairman of the Multnomah county GOP is representing Patriot Prayer in this matter pro bono.

Good find. I wasn't able to find any evidence on Google that the video was fake, but absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence and all that. The DSA taking down their videos is telling though.

So it appears that the person calling it made up was making that up, and the people deriding slow for uncritically accepting a made up video were themselves uncritically accepting a made up claim that the video was made up. Hopefully this leads to some self reflection 😛

(It probably won't though 🙁)

Shens, they're very fine people.
C'mon, guy, everyone knows that the alt-right's connection with mainstream conservatism is a hoax. That's why mainstream conservatives invite alt-righters to the White House, to GOP banquets as guests of honor, chant alt-right slogans at Trump rallies, continuously repeat alt-right themes on mainstream conservative news media, and GOP leaders defend alt-righters in court pro bono after those alt-righters started a violent riot.
