US Black AIDS rates rival African nations

Lets face it. People will have unprotected sex. Thats have people have babies. The prison system has a lot to do with it though.

I get what most of y'all are saying - if you don't want AIDS, then don't expose yourself to it. For some this means using protection / clean needles, for others it means abstinence. Everybody knows this - fine.

So I'm asking, and I'll always ask - why is this particular demographic so over-represented in these negative categories (prison vs. college, poverty, AIDS and other STDs)? What do you think? Is it a sort of cultural masochism, or is it maybe something inherent in the system, or some third option I'm not thinking of?

I find if you think hard enough about it, it gets harder and harder to blame rap videos, and easier to see that there's more to the discussion. This article may be sensational (our media? really?) but even if they used different language, it still demonstrates an important cultural discrepancy that is worth discussing.

I must say I find these numbers surprising.

Even accepting that black people are disproportionately likely to live in poverty (which in this country is indisputably the case), how do we account for these dramatic AIDS/HIV numbers? Why don't we see similar numbers among other ethnicities that tend to be poor, like Hispanic immigrants? I don't think black people are statistically likelier than other races to take intravenous drugs or engage in gay sex, so what is this about?

take a look at the population of the US of A one day and realise that an unproportunate amount of blacks are poor, now this has nothing to do with race (there is only one after all) ethnicity or whatever, it has to do with income classes, you could do the same fucking study all over the world and you'd find the same thing.

What it is about is poverty, is it STRANGE that the poorest groups in the US, the UK, and Africa are most likely to get HIV?

It's not hard to grasp, in EVERY country in the WORLD it's the asme, the poorest get more HIV infections, now, the poorest people in the US would be.... ... ..

If we really want a cure for HIV/AIDS, we should systematically infect the whole population. Either we (a.) figure out a cure, or (b.) kill off all the people who are not HIV resistant, letting evolution take over quickly. AIDS is one of the few epidemics in world history that is almost 100% containable solely by implementing good life habits. There are situations where someone can contract AIDS without action on their part (those who are born with the disease, blood transfusions, rapists, etc.) but those are a small, small minority compared to the larger population.

I have nothing but pity for those who caught this horrible disease through someone else's actions, but for everyone else, you made the choices that led to you contracting the disease. I have empathy but not much sympathy.

Simply put, black culture is broken. Unstable homes, poor media influences, and a pervading victim mentality are a recipe for disaster, and difficult to overcome. Until the black family is restored as a stable unit, most blacks will be doomed to the culture of poverty for the foreseeable future.

heard a talking head the other night say that the "no father" is misleading because the guys do live there, but the women say they aren't to be able to get benefits...

While there might be a vaccine someday, there is no cure for HIV and never will be. It's a retrovirus. It permanently replicates its genetic code into the infected person's DNA. If the whole population were infected, human evolution would cease with our extinction.

No one wants to talk about Americans and Aids. But toss in Africa, and there you have a quest to fight for.

More and more people are getting infected today in the US. And not just in the black community.
With the new medications and a possible "normal" life expectancy due to modern medicine, Aids has become invisible in America.

You'd think we have it cured here in the US, and its just other places like Africa where Aids is an issue.

Young sexual active people don?t think about getting Aids. Its curable in the US... Right?

You never hear the subject talked about concerning Americans.
Funding is actually being cut or targeted for cuts in the US.
