Germany, France, and Russia have indicated that they will not be sending any troops to the region.

I guess they will be contributing in terms of $$$.

...now the pro-leave-saddam-in-power gang can expect a piece of the proverbial pie without ever lifting a finger to liberate the Iraqis in the first place...god bless the UN and its ability to make the world a better place.

Not pro-leave-Saddam-in-power. Just pro-complete-the-UN-inspections-before-blowing-up-the-country-and-killing-thousands-while-wasting-hundreds-of-billions-of-dollars.

Georgie boy broke it. Let Georgie boy fix it.

I'm sure he's read Humpty Dumpty (or had it read to him) but it seems he didn't understand the moral of the nursery rhyme.

It should be interesting to see how much press this gets. Seems like we've had tons of press over the "bad" news for Bush dealing with this UN resolution, maybe they'll report this "good" news for the Bush Administration, or maybe they'll pick this apart and distort it(like they did with the Kay report).

It's good to see the UN finally doing something with this.

BBC news adds:

The outcome of the vote will be hailed by some as a victory for American diplomacy, says the BBC's Greg Barrow at the UN.

An announcement shortly before the vote confirmed France, Germany and Russia - leading critics of the US-led war on Iraq - would back the amended text, ending speculation they might abstain altogether.

But continuing concerns about the text mean they will not contribute troops or funds to the reconstruction effort.

The resolution confirms that for the time being the Coalition Provisional Authority will remain the over-arching power in Iraq, although it stresses that the transfer of sovereignty and government back to the Iraqi people will happen as soon as practicable.

The United Nations is promised a strengthened vital role in the political and economic reconstruction process, but only as circumstances, particularly security, permit.

Still missing is a clear timetable, with dates, for a transfer of power and anything like the more dominant role that the UN had sought.

The three had raised concerns about the role the United Nations would play in the political settlement in Iraq, as well as about the mandate of a future international peacekeeping force.

Have you people actually been following this resolution? The current draft accomplishes absolutely nothing. It is being passed for the sake of council unity nothing more. This will result in no more troops and no more money.

Nope, it's the truth. I'm waiting to see how the press will handle this. My expectations aren't high though due to past history.

Good lord - Bush finally did enough whining to cause others to bail out his mess.

I guess it has to do more with just getting the ball rolling towards that goal. Prior to this resolution passing, it was basically everybody vs the US, it seemed.

It seems we are on the path to a free and peaceful Iraq. Maybe.

I don't see where you're going with this Cad, every major online news org is reporting the UN resolution. But I'm sure FoxNews is having a good ole' hoe down slash ticker tape parade, so you may wanna head over there for the party ;)

It's obvious that they have to report it, it'll just be interesting to see their commentary(spin) on it.
