McSwane contacted his local army recruiting office in Golden with a scenario he created. He told a recruiter that he was a dropout and didn't have a high school diploma.

"No problem," the recruiter explained. He suggested that McSwane create a fake diploma from a non-existent school.

McSwane recorded the recruiter saying that on the phone.

"It can be like Faith Hill Baptist School or something -- whatever you choose," the recruiter said.

As instructed, McSwane went on the computer to a Web site and for $200 arranged to have a phony diploma created that certified him as a graduate of Faith Hill Baptist High School, the very name the recruiter suggested. It came complete with a fake grade transcript.

I know recruiters bend the truth about the military itself when recruiting, make it out to be all wonderful and fun, but now they are helping kids lie and cheat just to get in?

This sure does not set a good example for the young kids they are recruiting, basically teaching them it's ok to lie and cheat in the military to meet your goals. This is pretty sad. One smart kid though, he tested the system and then exposed it.

dont let one bad apple spoil the basket

That kid will fit right in with the rest of the heroes fighting in Iraq.

There is nothing new here.

I've heard many stories of people doing the same thing during WWII, Korea and Viet Nam.

since when do you need a diploma to join the army?

last i checked (here at least) all you need is grade 10. - or maybe that's just for reserves.. I forget.

Please back that statement up. You just stated that recruiters in general lie, and I will have to disagree.

You gotta know that recruitment numbers falling short are putting the screws to many recruiters, and will be put in their service jacket as a "did not perform to standards" black mark.

Why aren't they setting up recruiting booths outside fundie churches? The pro-life people are quite pro-war. They should be champing at the bit to sign up and go kill some Eye-RACK-ees

when my g/f joined the navy the recruiter told her how to beat the urinanalysis test. his pill didn't work and she was sent to SEPS(?) for a week then sent home. i'm glad she got kicked out as 2 months later was 9/11.

Back when I was in high school, I remember some of my friends getting some special treatment about mary-jane smoking... I remember specifically one recruiter actually asking one of my friends if he smoked any weed recently to fail a drug test and if he did, they could delay his date by a few days or something.

Wow, the trolls cant even stay on topic for five minutes without all kinds of retarded religious and Bush bashing.

we dont go over there to kill Eye-RACK-ees.... nevemrind, im not even gonna get started, im getting sick of reading this garbage in here and tryign to respond to it

I wasn't allowed into the AF because it showed I had done drugs other than marijuana on my medical record. I didn't know that would have been a factor, but at the time I couldn't pass a piss test and was worried about that and so my recruiter offered to move it to a later date.

I know my recruiter lied to me. Fellow recruits in basic also shared stories of lies they were told.
This was pretty far down my track of getting into the military, but I mentioned that I played guitar and he said there was a rec room in the basic training dorms where people could get together and play
One guy brought a portable TV because his recruiter told him he'd be allowed to use it in basic. It really sucked for him when we played "pick 'em up, put 'em down" with our luggage the first day.

My recruiter got to the part where they ask about drug use, and I said "Will I get in trouble if I say yes?"
He said "for anything but marijuana, yes." So I said yeah, I've smoked it. He said "How many times?"
So I sat there for a couple minutes thinking, trying to come up with a reasonable estimate, and he said "Okay, five times. Anyone asks, you tried it five times."

Yeah, he asked me that and I didn't want to say hundreds and hundreds of times so I put down 4 (I think you had to be under 10 times or something like that).

Now that is classy. . . The Army and Marines will take anyone though. Surprised they even required a HS diploma, like the Navy and the AF (a legit one - with transcripts and contact information, etc).
