I for one wonder about the overall wisdom of it. As it is, there are a lot of India Pakistani tensions so it may be a bad idea for the USA to appear too friendly with India. Especially when the US is already in enough doo doo in Pakistan.

And it can become really explosive if India is investing in Afghanistan.

Better to be allied with a democracy than Pakistan.

You complain about Israel having undo influence with the US, but want a fence sitter like Pakistan to dictate our military decisions.

Looks like Islam is your calling.

This, a thousand times. We only climbed in bed with Pakistan to offset Soviet-leaning India. Well, the Soviet Empire collapsed, the Death Star's been parted out, radical Islam is on the rise, and India is a LOT better fit for us than is Pakistan. Just as we sought out and built up Pakistan as a military hedge against the Soviets, we should seek out and build up India as an economic hedge against Red China. India is militarily fairly backward but with a great pool of brainpower; they can benefit from our experience and technology while we learn from what they make of our technology, how they cope with diversity (i.e. getting along with Muslims), their different approaches to common military and technological problems, and their broad scientific competency. Done correctly it should be a win-win relationship.

Cool video, Baasha. I especially like that first comment. Friends with benefits indeed. :D

Why should we be worried if we appear to be friendly w/ India to Pakistan? Regardless of how we view India, Pakistan, or rather a too large segment of those in power there, will always want to undermine the US-PAK relationship out of fundamental Islamic reasons. All of that aid money, military aid, .etc did nothing to make Pakistan worry about having Bin Laden right there. I know not all in the Pakistani government, military, and ISI want to undermine the US, but far too many do for anything but a superficial trust. Hell, Pakistan was on the phone to China first thing to show the stealth helicopter IIRC. Your comment reeks of bias, rather than what would truly be beneficial for YOUR country.

Developing a better relationship w/ India is long overdue, they share our values way more than Pakistan does.

Even though India is a democracy, it's leans towards socialism. Which makes sense since most are poor and they have the same voting rights as the rest. I do agree that India would be a better ally than Pakistan.

True, but even the USA leans toward socialism compared to just a couple decades ago. Most of Europe is quite socialist, the notable exception being Eastern Europe where they've had enough socialism to make the taste of freedom sweet. Civilization requires a certain amount of socialism, and unfortunately, the human condition is that we want free shit in ever larger quantities.

We're just about done with Pakistan. We won't need them anymore, and we'll go back to ignoring them again.

Recently it is because the bad guys we want to kill are hanging out in Pakistan, so being chummy with them allows us access to the areas where they are hanging out.

Previously, it was due to the evil empire.

Um what?

We helped you defeat the Soviet Union. You responded by imposing sanctions. We helped you in the illegal WoT and you responded by killing our soldiers and threatening us with sanctions. Pakistan has rethought its engagement with the USA and while there won't be a significant short-term change, we at looking and others to meet our strategic needs.

Down with America.

For all the breathless rhetoric about how electing Obama would make the "world" love us we are, if we're being honest, more isolated than anytime since the nuclear genie came out of the bottle. We barely have any relationship with Pakistan and who can blame them? It's not much of a surprise that our relationship with them is almost nil when Obama said during the 2008 election that he'd nuke them. North Korea is ramping up their hostility toward us. China owns us as we spiral out of control economically. Iran has all but told Obama to go fuck himself. Obama sends money to what would be considered terrorists in Egypt if Obama's letter after his name was an "R" instead of a "D". Syria is thumbing their noses at us because they know we are now a paper tiger. Is it a coincidence that Obama's ascension is parallel with the middle east's dissension into chaos? Sorry but I don't believe in coincidences. At this point we'd better damn well take care of the few countries left that align with us instead of this go-it-alone strategy.

Pakistan is also a democracy. The people hate American oppression more than the elected leaders now--but Imran Khan, who is tipped to be the next PM will put that right.

So Imran Khan will become Prime Minister and make the people hate their elected leaders even more than American oppression?

I keed, I keed!

Fuck Pakistan. India is the world's largest democracy and a rival to China. Despite their flaws they are a natural American ally. The Pakistanis don't even pretend to be our friends anymore.

It is more closer to a theocracy than a democracy.

Imran Khan will do squat, if you think a single person will change the fate your, ideologically divided, country.. then you have a deeper problem.

An excellent example of a Muslim apologist.

With people like this, no wonder America and India face many of the same challenges. For both countries, the worst enemies are from within.

ROFL!

TGB, cool story bro!

Imran Khan? hahha. .are you kidding me? Isn't it strange that this guy was a philanderer and drunkard in his youth and is now a "beard-less Taliban"? Sounds awfully similar to OBL! Imran Khan should've stuck to cricket and commentary after his retirement.

^This. x10^100

This relationship should've been built decades ago. However, better late than never. As a friend of mine who is one of the big-wig money managers said, "The future is US, England, and India. Fuck everyone else!"

His words, not mine.
