Airports actively try to keep birds off the field.

The FBI are currently investigating these geese for ties to Al-Qaeda.

Anyone ever seen that movie called The Edge? Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin are in a plane that hits geese and crash.

Yeah, decent movie. I watched it for school actually.

The pilot deserves a medal for his landing. That plane doesn't appear to be broken-up at all and has remained afloat for a VERY long time.

great job by him but you'd have to think many many pilots would have done the same. The difficulty of such a landing though - I can't say anything about that.

A medal? For doing his job? They are trained in what to do in emergency situations. He deserves an atta boy for a job well done, but at the end of the day he is just doing his job.

If I saved a server from crashing at work last week by detecting a HD that was going bad.. i wouldnt get so much as a thank you let alone a medal!

lmfao
i agree replacing a hd is the same as landing an impaired passenger jet for the first time on water with 150 peoples lives in your hands.

at the end of the day you> him

Its when you run into a flock of birds that take out 2 engines you get what we had today

It still seems like it would be a pretty common occurrence. I see flocks of geese and other birds all over the place. Even if they are using means to scare birds away, they can only do that right on the airport grounds. The plane are still vulnerable for several miles away from the airport.

pilot hit a flock of geese???? haha

You wouldn't be laughing if you were on that plane.

thank god I am not then, huh...

looks like the plane is submerged now...

Motion for ban. It could just as easily been you, or someone you know, on that plane. I bet everyone of the passengers on the plane thought they were going to die. And you think it's funny?

I find it funny that a flock of birds could do this, not the fact that people could/did die.

Coming from someone else it might have been funny. You were probably being serious though.

TSA officials have confirmed a temporary ban on bird feed is now in effect on all domestic commercial flights.

Yes, well if you don't replace the HD correctly do 150 people die? Also, how many pilots ever actually make a real crash landing in a commercial jet?

Sure it may be "his job" as you put it, but it's about .0001% of his job and performance should always be praised.

Soldier's receive medals for "doing their jobs" countless times over the course of history.

On the water in that big of plane in real life, i would think almost no one did it safely. He did amazing job, and should be promoted.

It happens all the time. At least once a week we have a report of a bird strike......never to this extent though.

I don't understand what some people are discussing here. These pilots did a damn good job in getting the plane in one piece in the river and the cabin crew did a good job in evacuating the plane

See, one post of similar fashion could be passed off as a joke, even from you. Now it's just trolling.

If the uppity French plane didn't have a taste for foie gras it wouldn't have happened in the first place. ;)
