That was all I could find. It said they *may* file for bankruptcy in order to restructure.
I doubt that would be the case. Actually, the airlines only operate with a few days worth of cash. Any small "blip" can put them over the edge. I suspect that US Air saw this coming some time ago - maybe, two years or more. A few years back, they were going to sell out to Robert Johnson (he started BET), but that deal never materialized. However, being a Nothern-Virginian myself, this kind of stinks because quite a few companies in our area have tanked - I was getting used to those yearly 20% gains on my house value, but stuff like this kind of puts a damper on the real estate market.and I REALLY hope there are no accounting scandals at USAirways.
Actually, I wonder how many airplanes US Air actually owns? They could lease more than they own.Get some extra capital. Time to buy some cheap airplanes
US Airways also operates quite a few local routes with some turboprops , especially to those to the middle of nowhere around its hubs. I've flown a few of these and if US Airways tanks, getting to some of those places will be much, much harder., whereas i'm sure that U.S. Airways has mostly widebodies like the 747 and Airbus 4xx series planes

Actually, the only airline worth a damn (both in the monetary as well as in the sense of as a consumer) is Southwest Airlines. Southwest is likely the only airline with the scratch to buy those surplus planes, but wouldn't because they only fly Boeing 737s, whereas i'm sure that U.S. Airways has mostly widebodies like the 747 and Airbus 4xx series planes.
