Urgent - Need Some Quick Info About Win2k Server and Adv. Server

Hey,

Quick question, the company I work at just purchases several rackmounts and currently have Win2K server installed.

However, my boss (I'm in the IT Dept), wants to put Win2K Adv. Server on them instead, he asked me whether he could "upgrade" Win2K Server to Adv. Server, and I told him, that as far as I know, you won't be able to do that, rather you can only upgrade from NT 3/4 to the "flavours" of Win2K

So, can you do the upgrade? He's need certaintity, and my word isn't good enough. 😕

Upgrading from Win2k Server to ADVANCED is possible, and probably the
way to go, provided you plan well.

What is reason your boss has for upgrading to Advanced?
Scalability?
Clustering?
Load Balancing?

If you are not having problems now, and only have a fewer than 20 Servers,
it might not be worth the extra overhead it will take to manage them.
 

You are correct. Upgrading from w2k server to adv. server is not "supported"

Actually we're just setting up the servers so it's not much work to reformat, and the reason for it is that we're going to be using Oracle, and want the advanced features that Adv. Server has to offer, such as clustering and all, thanks a lot everyone!

Nope. An "upgrade" is not possible. Can you please elaborate as to why your boss would want to spend thousands of more dollars for an upgrade that is only needed if you want to utilize more CPU's (if your hardware has that many CPU's), and or load balancing, clustering, etc. as LiLithTech mentioned.
