EDIT/UPDATE okay, i definitely can't afford to go if i can't talk some sense into the fao.

---------
it really looks like if i can't talk some sense into the financial aid office, i will no longer be able to afford to go to NYU.

assuming that i can't go there anymore, what are my options?
1. go to another college
2. drop out and work
3. ???
4. ???
...

and how would i go about 1. or 2. or 3. or what not?

--

this is my second year at NYU, and i am a math and EE major in their engineering program

along with stevens institute of technology across the river @ hoboken. you can read more about the program, here.

maybe i'll just shoot myself, but then i can't afford the gun ;-)

GA Tech. Much cheaper (i think) and it's darned good. although there are no fly honeys. but since it's you, Mday, that won't be an issue. ;)

Seriously though ,that really sucks. Financial aide offices all blow chunks.

Then Air Force. And it's not like getting in shape would be a bad thing.

bad eye sight, and i can't take the g forces.

as for loans, i am considering that, but i have to do that via the financial aid office anyway, it's gonna have to be a personal loan from a bank through the school, not really part of financial aid. but that means it'd be improbable for me to pay off the money any time soon.

Loans, loans, loans! Or go to a cheaper school for a semester or two and reapply for admittance & financial aid after a semester or so. Good luck buddy, I know the situation. I've lost 3 scholarships at Tulane, before I figured out I was in the wrong major. :(

EDIT: College loans aren't made to be paid off in a reasonable amount of time. ;)

if i go to another college for a semester or 2, i'd be out of luck for the engineering program at nyu and stevens. which makes it impossible for me to graduate from nyu (on time) anyway because of the courses i must take at nyu because i am no longer in the engineering program.

what other engineering schools are there, that i can actually get a liberal arts education?

From my experience, the banks that deal with financial aid loans are more than willing to provide
the max amount of aid to the borrower very semester! Is that not the cace here? :D

Clemson University. The programs are not as good as GA Tech but it is pretty damn close.

Pretty inexpensive school also. You can take the free bus or walk to everything at this school also so there is not a real need for a car.

Quit and get a job. College is a waste of your time and money if you have any decent technical knowledge or can learn quickly. Most companies are so desperate for technical people that they'll hire somebody even if they just act like they COULD learn it, and they'll train you. You'll probably start low, like in tech support, but you'll be making at least a decent amount of money, though not exactly the point that you don't have to continue to worry about money, but you will be able to move up quickly if you're good.

My roommate got offered a 45k a year job locally (Boston area) for essentially being a phone monkey, mainly because he's got the technical skill and knowledge, not because of certificates or degrees (he hasn't finished college yet and has no certs).

Go with Unsubsidized Student Loans.. just like Subsidized Student Loans but higher interest rates (I think). You still have 10 years to pay it off.. you just pay more. Just fill out your FAFSA, they'll say you don't qualify for aid or whatever, but should still offer you the oppurtunity to make Unsubsidized Student Loans.
