ok. i have a compaq presario sr1650nx

i had an extra 40gb hard drive. i looked on the actual hd and looked at what it said was slave, and I THINK i did it right... (not sure)...it had two rectangles, and I only had 1 pin... 🙁

so i took the wide wire (really wide and grey) and plugged it into the back of the hd and into the extra IDE thing (all in the PC, and slipped the HD in the slot).

I put the power cable into the back of the HD too.

so now I had 2 hds (one 250gb with windows and all my files, one 40gb with nothing.)

I had just put it into my ext HD enclosure and formatted it.

i booted my computer and got this message

"NTLDR is missing
Press Cntrl+Alt+ Del to restart"

I restarted, SAME MESSAGE!

so now I cant boot or anything... please please help!

Change the boot order in your BIOS. Chances are the system is trying to boot from the 40GB drive which has nothing on it. There should be an option in the BIOS that allows you to set individual hard drive boot priority. So simply change the priority to have your 250GB as the first option and the 40GB as the 2nd.

That is probably your problem.

To get into every BIOS you need to hold a key while the computer boots usually.

The key is usually DELETE or F1 or F2 or F10, something like that. Try different ones, but it will tell you what to press when the computer starts on the screen.

ok any idea how to get in to the bios of a compaq presario???

The computer's manual, or and the Support site of Compaq are good sources too.

Bios did it, thanks (BTW, why would the comp try to boot from a blank HD?! It looks like i had set it to 1 slave and the other was 3rd master- wow?
