URGENT help! What's a 50 pin *IDE* connector????

I'm attempting to put together an HP Vectra VLi8 "SF"
(small factor) system for my cousin. I told him I'd have
it together for him for tomorrow. No problem...

EXCEPT that it turns out that the 2nd IDE connector
on the motherboard (actually, on a riser) is a 50 pin
slim IDE connection. I thought it'd be a 44 pin
"notebook" style IDE connector because the computer uses
a notebook slimline CD-ROM (which has a 44 pin IDE
connector). But it's not. It's 50 pin... I have a
44 pin to 44 pin IDE connector...Ugh!

Is anyone familiar with a 50 pin IDE connection (yes,
it's IDE NOT SCSI)? Can, perhaps, pins 45-50 be ignored
in making the connection or ... ????

Any IMMEDIATE help I can get would be greatly appreciated
since my cousin's gonna be really disappointed if I don't
bring this to him tomorrow.

Thanks,

Kwad

you'll have to order an adapter from somewhere. that connector is for the 2.5" hard drives.

I went ahead an plugged the 44 pin cable into the 1-44 pins
of the 50 pin slot...Seems to be working fine...Passes drive
benchmarks at about the rates I'd expect...

If someone familiar with 50 pin ide connectors could chime in
one day to let me know what pins 45-50 do, that'd be nice :)

Pins 45-50 are pins that are screaming to be plugged into SCSI.
hehe.

uh huh huh , he said 50 pin IDE, uh huh huh.

That's about HP's speed to use some odd-ball technology like that.
