urgent help needed

while shutting down my computer completely frooze nothing responds, not even the keyboard. it's stuck on the shut down screen and i'm wondering what i should do...if the hard drive is locked will turning it off mess up the drive more?

Just hold down the power button until it shuts off. No other option.

well good news. nothing bad happened...i suppose i should look into what caused this, probably a sign something is about to fail. i just rebuilt this machine not too long ago. *sighs*

Power supply failure or spike/surge on the line can cause this. Or the great Cthulu...
