And by the way, this post needs to be moved to the Networking forum. I was wondering why I saw this in OT.

It's because it's urgent, therefore the OP thinks he can circumvent forum rules by posting in the wrong forum.

He needed help and came to the place he knew he could get it. Its not his fault the Networking forum gets less traffic than Nell Carter's porn site.

jeez, a little pissy tonight?

The issue is that I am trying to set this up for my parents while I am here at their house, and we all know the networking forum isn't getting any traffic on Christmas Eve.

This is for a Roku box, so there is no laptop to mess with. Like I said, my brother told me he had a wireless router, but when he showed up with it, it turned out to be a WAP. Stores are closed, and I'm not even sure the WAP is returnable as he's had it for a while, that's why I'm making every effort to make it work if possible.

I wasn't being pissy. If I was being pissy I would have said "Post in the right fucking forum you jerkoff ". But I didn't say that.

You're SOL anyways if it's just a WAP and not a router.

a WAP is designed to augment an existing wired LAN to allow wireless PC's to connect to the LAN and internet.

what he really needs is a wireless router (most have ethernet ports on the back)

And I do have to disagree about the networking forum, it does get less traffic in there than OT but the people that post can actually give you the CORRECT answers, which the first dozen posts I saw on here weren't correct at all. The correct answer was, the OP needs a router. A WAP won't work. The networking forum has a few very dedicated people that will help and usually help pretty quickly. JackMDS is one of them, as well as myself and about 10 others. Anyway, this needs to be in the networking forum for a reason, in OT this got buried pretty quickly onto the 2nd page which won't help you at all.
