Try a diffent read speed on the cd-rom drive go to PIO if you have to. and or try a different read speed on the hdd go to PIO if you have to.

Its a shot in the dark but it might work.

and its the only advice thus far.

From a friend.

bad cd or bad cd drive, possibly bad cable.. even a bad controller.. possibly bad hard drive

You have your work cut out for yourself tonight.

thanks for that quick response no0b

i went to MS website:
they said:
Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need assistance, contact your hardware manufacturer.

i did that, no luck

BUT THEN

i reset BIOS defaults, and it worked!!

wtf?? what could have been the setting that simply caused it to not work

my friend and i had a board one time that if we put a jumper on certain pins it would work, and if we took it off it would take 20 minutes to count the ram, we called it the "dont suck" jumper". is there a "dont suck" bios setting?

thanks
david

hehe dont suck jumper. actually i that was more than like a jumper to turn on or off fast ram counting. remember the 486 days when it would count up the ram in bytes or kb now it counts it in mb you can revert but it takes forever to count it all.
