I have troube to share files between windows XP and Windows 98se:

my setting up has no problems connecting two XP machines; they can share files and printers;

however, any XP machine would not be able to see Windows 98 even that pinging win98 machine gives a perfect response;
the win98 is able to see XP machine under "Entire Network", but after double clicking XP, a new window prompts in the win98 machine, asking for PASSWORD with the message "You must supply a password to make this conneciton, Resource: \\XP\IPC$" (Weird, the Win98 doesn't even ask for user name.)

Please help me. Thanks a lot.

User account on the XP machine should be the name of the Win98 box and then just away password. Then when you try connecting to the WinXP machines via the Win98 machines just type in the password you set up for that User Account.

If you have any troubles feel free to PM me, Email me, or IM me at minendo.
