could someone please tell me for the updated version with the ball-bearing fans [ie version 1889-01] what was the model number on the box:
was it 1889 still or was it 1889-01

What i am trying to get at is, is it possible to tell without opening the packaging what fan-type [hydrowave or ball-bearing] is on the hsf.

i have found a supplier who is advertising the hsf as having the hydrowave and i rang to double-check but to be honest they didnt seem to knwo there was even an updated version and looked on the box which says 1889.

Much appreciated [they are a tad expensive compared to others so i am willing to buy from them if it the right fan-type but not worth it if i just get the 1889-01]

fantastic! that means that assuming the customer services guy i spoke with on the phone isnt a cmplete muppet then i sourced me the hydrowave version....:D

last question [i promise!] - as well as the part number, does it actually say the fan-type on the box [ie hydrowave or ball-bearing].
if not then i will order stat cos i have no more info to get from them but if it does i will ring in the morning and ask them to check that b4 i order. i should have asked when i rang but it just didnt occur to me!

A1889 Silent Boost - Designed for AMD Athlon? XP to 3400+ Hydro wave bearing fan

A1889-01 Silent Boost - Designed for AMD Athlon? XP to 3400+ Ball bearing fan.

Yes the packaging shows what type of fan is included, before opening.

One is a panaflo brand fan and the other is a thermaltake? brand fan. "hydrowave" is marketing hype.

gotta convince him to trade!!

So which one is the Hydro bearing Panny? The plain 1889 is, right? NOT the 1889-01, right?

Looking at this cooler for my dual Opteron rig.
