While the 9000 may have more advanced features, I would say go with the GF3, especially if it is a TI500, as you will get better performance in most cases.

Performance is more or less the same. 2d on the 9000 will be excellent, could be on the GF3, but you won't know until you see it.

I'd get the 9000.

9000=DX 9 compliant...I'd go for it, it's the newest card. GF3 days are about to be over

i would go with ati. but as for dx9 compliant is not totally true. yes it will run dx9 but wont have any dx9 hardware support but it will have dx8.1 support. who cares, no games run on dx9 and few run on dx8.1. just go with ati.

merry x-mas!

Heh, I'd say the best bang for your dollar is an O/C'd 9500pro which smokes the ti4200 and even the 4600 in many cases. It's only a little bit more expensive than the 4200 and looks to have a much longer lifespan.

Well, if you can afford it, I would definitely go for the 9500 Pro, as it is now OC'able.

Ati Radeon (9000 Pro or 8500) for sharper image, or geForce3 (Ti500) for faster gameplay.

I'm using Radeon8500 and still happy with it on my Athlon 1.33

between a 9000 and a geforce3, i would definitely get a geforce 3, as long as it was a card with decent 2d.

I have a Geforce3 Ti 200 @ 250/530, Geforce4 Ti 4200 128MB @ 300/540, Radeon 9000, and a retail Radeon 8500 128MB @ 315/301. Until the latest Catalyst 2.5 release, I would have prefered the Geforce3 to a Radeon 9000 pro. But now I like the performance of the regular Radeon 9000 over the Geforce 3, so the 9000 pro is definately the way to go. I just pulled the GF4 Ti4200 out of my main system and replaced it with the Radeon 8500!

I have a geforce 3 ti500 and a pentium 4 1.8 ghz cpu and although I can't max out the settings and resolution like you could with a radeon 9500 pro or 9700 pro all current games look very good on my system (Doom 3 probably won't run that great). Battlefield 1942 and Unreal Tourney 2003 look fine.

The Radeon 8500/LE and are faster than the GF3 line. GF3 got left in the dust back when nVidia shifted their emphasis on their GF4 Ti/MX boards. On the otherhand the 9000 tends to lack in performance and the GF3 might actually be faster (even the Ti 200). You really can't go wrong with either one...

I believe d3 is being aimed at the gf3 level. It will probably run it well but only at low settings :(
