One thing coming back that I found somewhat amusing are the checkered Van shoes that were featured in the movie "Fast times at Ridgemont High".

I'm trying to get myself a "Members Only" jacket. Oh yeah parachute pants were supposedly back in style around 98/99. Old Navy did their best to market them.

I call Urban Outfitters "The Ministry of Trendy Housewares." I support the "overpriced tripe" notion.
Although I do find a tasty clearance there every now and again....

<---engineering student that does teh same thing.

Just go to the Old Navy Clearance racks and you are set for life. I have never spent over $12 on a piece of clothing that i bought from there! the last pair of pants i bought cost me $9:)

I dont get how "average" students have money to shop at places like GAP or UrbanOutfitters. Where the hell do they get all this money? Mommy and Daddy?

i dont think there really is an alternative place to shop. UO carries all the new trend brands such as Diesel, Puma, etc. theyre style is usually very different than most stores. right now theyre refocusing on the 80s style which is exactly what ive been going for too. which is why ive been shopping there a bit more than usual.

I find it funny that people adopt trend that they think are new. Puma has been around for a long time, yet people think their clothes is somethign new. Most people dont even know why Puma is even famous. Go to PacSun and you will see them selling a pair of Dickies for an astounding $50. Six years ago, Dickies were sold at your local K mart for $15. My dad wore them to work because those types of pants were required for his job, however, somewhere along the line, some smart kid who liked skateboarding told him self to start using cheap pants while he was skateboarding, and viola, they suddenly become these trendy "skateboarding pants" with a $40 increase.

Why are engineers so adamant about looking like their moms dressed them?

I think it's illegal to impersonate a US postal worker. You can probably get a UPS shirt.

That has nothing to do with it...more like I don't see the need in wasting money on clothes that look 10% cooler than clothes that look 80% as good and keep you just as warm for 20% the price. Spending big money on clothes seems....silly.

Edit: And actually, you can usually get clothes that look just as good without the label. Cheap != looks like ass.

Are you sure it's just engineers? Last person i saw that looked like his mom dressed him was a business major.

no need to flame each other on how they dress, some people like to spend their money on clothes, others blow it on a ipod, others like to some crazy water cooled computers.

Just because you think that their clothes are overpriced doesn't mean that other people do.

actually a pair of dickies @ pacsun costs 29.99. I bought a pair a while back FOR WORK.:D

H & M has some decent clothing (cheap also), used clothing stores tend to be good (ragstock for us in Minnesota) Marshall Fields (Dayton's) has some clothes that are similar to those found in UrbanOutfitters and some of the same brands, and best of all, just about everything in departments stores are on sale right now. I prefer all of those to UrbanOutfitters, atleast for buying an entire outfit rather than just a single t-shirt. Outfitters is too much of a prepackaged look to me.

Now that's an engineer's answer.
