Eggs are cheap

I can't imagine it really saves money keeping these things, but they sure do generate a shit ton of noise for the entire neighborhood to hear starting at 5am or whenever the first rays of light hit the morning

It's a sound literally designed to attract attention (this, heavily distracts) and the sad thing is if I stood outside my apartment and made a similar 'squawk squawk squawk' noise, at the same exact decibel level, I am sure my neighbors would call the cops on me. So I don't understand why this is allowed to happen. As I understand, I could call the police but nothing will happen same as noisy dogs. This is worse than a noisy dog though.... these things start at the first rays of light every single morning and periodically throughout the day, like hourly, continue to make the noise until they go to sleep. The owners are surrounded on all sides by houses and apartment complexes, like I said eggs are cheap, I just don't understand people. Are they actually saving money doing this, between the costs of keeping the birds fed, housed and heated.

if you live in the city you get much worse noises than chickens.

Anyway you can try and get chickens banned if this is a non-agricultural area.
Otherwise be happy that it's not guinea fowl.

eggs are cheap but eggs from your own chicken taste better and are more humane than cheap eggs.

Also I think you can save money if you also cook them up when they're past their prime deposition age and they can free-range for much of their protein. No heating is needed in temperate climates. The coop is a one time expense. There's the cleaning and feeding but that's just bedding and big bags of feed.
Also no vet expenses if you don't treat them as pet, so that's much less expensive than a dog.

Some people have chickens as pets so that's money that's not going towards expensive dog food and vet bills.

If we ever move to the country, we'll get guinea fowl or pea fowl as watch animals.

Can't you file a complaint at the city hall? What's the regulation there?

Yep, eggs are cheap, I also don't understand why people keep chickens in their backyard.

But the sound in the video doesn't sound like chicken.

Regarding dogs, there are a lot of them in my neighborhood. Since my house is close to a high school, whenever students walk by, all of the dogs can bark at the same time for several minutes, it really drives me crazy.

I went to an island for our honey moon, in the second place we stayed it was rampant with wild chickens - so every night at like.. 5AM they would get right underneath our bungalo and would start that squaking shit. I really wish I had a gun with me to make some fried chicken.

Dogs are more of a problem for me. We can have hens just not roosters in my neighborhood.

Where I used to live, a neighbor across the street kept a few hens and a single rooster, the noise didn't bother me one bit, especially since I got free large eggs out of it (large as in REAL large eggs, not the medium ones labeled as 'large' in stores).

Eggs may be cheap at the store, but free is cheaper, and I didn't have to drive to the store to get them.

Would get some chickens where I live now, but would need to completely fence in my property, as roaming dogs, wild foxes and coyotes are a problem.

I don't really see it as much of a problem. Between dogs, birds, vehicles, construction noise etc this is rather minor. It's assholes who complain about stuff like this that are the reason why we can't have nice things and that there's so much red tape and bylaws about what you can/can't do in your very own property these days.

F off - signed, your neighbors

Your property rights don't encompass your neighbors' soundscape.

The noise doesn't bother me. That chickens are disease vector bothers me. Histoplasmosis is no fun.

Humans are the only reservoir for many different pathogens including Treponema Pallidum (aka syphilis). Ban humans too. And don't inhale bird feces.

Maybe there is money to be made by anyone who can selectively-breed (or genetically-engineer) a silent cockerel? Or just one who sleeps in till noon?

Round here urban foxes have already become more sophisticated than their country-bumpkin cousins and have started going out and about during daylight (the exact opposite of what happens to humans when they move to the big city, come to think of it). Not to mention becoming fast-food addicts. Surely urban chickens also need to evolve for their new environment?

Some hipster douche had chickens in my neighborhood for about 3 months before he finally, thanks to a few visits from the zoning enforcement officer, understood the responsibility that comes with living in a somewhat civilized area.

By the end of summer there should be enough video evidence to hit the vintage motorcycle tard with a big enough fine to hopefully shut down his illegal garage repair shop for a while. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take the fat fuck forty-five minutes of revving and back firing to adjust a carburetor or whatever he's doing to the pieces of shit he works on. He's one of those flag waving, don't tread on me types who thinks that because he "owns" a tiny square of property he can burn tires and keep slaves if he goddamn wants to.

Love freshly laid eggs. Would have chickens in my urban yard if I could.

Man up. Jesus. Either move into one of the millions of prissy pants "you can't have your hose in your front lawn" and "god forbid you put up a flag that is too big" and "don't you dare plant the wrong color flowers" HOA's across America, or harden the F up.

Why do some people feel the need to screw around with others' livelyhoods? A regular job is hard to find these days, this guy is just trying to make a living doing what he likes. The government sure does not help these people either by making it illegal to perform business on your own property in a lot of cases. Yet another breach of freedom these days. Way too many regulations and BS. Large corporations need to be regulated more, people need to be regulated less. Self employment should be something that's encouraged, not frowned upon.

What? No.

My neighborhood is 1/4 acre lots right in the middle of a largish city. There are a ton of common sense rules that exist for the benefit of everyone. You can't burn your trash. You can't raise livestock. You can't have a firing range in your back yard. You can't operate a business that generates hazardous waste. You can't poop in a hole. You can't have rock concerts. Doesn't matter if you make money at it or not.

If a person wants all the benefits of living in a civilized urban setting there are some things that have to be given up in exchange. Those who want to enjoy their freedumbz can still totally do so, they just have to go somewhere else.

Its hard to comprehend a well thought out response like that with an avatar like that. Vinegar and water.
