Why do some people feel the need to screw around with others' livelyhoods? A regular job is hard to find these days, this guy is just trying to make a living doing what he likes. The government sure does not help these people either by making it illegal to perform business on your own property in a lot of cases. Yet another breach of freedom these days. Way too many regulations and BS. Large corporations need to be regulated more, people need to be regulated less. Self employment should be something that's encouraged, not frowned upon.
It's all fun&games until YOU live near one and get woken up at all hours of the day. :)

Yeah, I enjoy unshielded arc welding and metal grinding across the street at 0-fuck-you-dead-in-the-morning. The asshat is literally up at 2am arc welding in his driveway with the flashes lighting up my bedroom walls.. That's a fucking reasonable thing to expect in a residential neighborhood. Zoning laws and nuisance laws are designed to reduce the murder rate.

Its hard to comprehend a well thought out response like that with an avatar like that. Vinegar and water.

This avatar does a okay job of reminding users that words/sounds/images found on the internet are often input by crazy people or idiots like me and there is little or no substance behind any of it other than to amuse or deceive.

That reminds me, I haven't heard the cockerel crowing from the next block over in quite awhile. I guess sense prevailed. Didn't think we could harbor farm animals in the city limits. Lots of Mexicans around here act like they are still in Mexico.

I'm glad "all" animal poop and the accompanying flies is confined to the rural areas. Can you imagine, if everyone owned livestock? Poop everywhere! Flies galore!

Why yes, yes I can imagine, because I live surrounded by dairy farms. Ya know what? It isn't poop everywhere and flies galore....... They actually collect the poop with an automatic poop scooper quite often, and it goes into underground fermentation tanks and is saved and liquid fertilizer.... Just sayin.

Hehe ok. Interesting. Well in my visits to rural upstate NY, there are always flies aplenty. Biting flies.
Just trying to imagine if our highways and byways and parking lots were littered with animal poo, and everyone had various goats, chickens, etc faffing about the yard.

On a related note: I actually work near a meat market's dumpster and the hordes of flies that gestate there is impressive.

i have a 7k sqft lot and 6 chickens, 2 dogs and a cat. they can be Noisy at times, but are generally pretty quiet. I like the fresh eggs. we sell them for 5 a dozen to my wife's co-workers which pays for the food and bedding. My neighbors can't even be bothered to pick up the leaves they put in a pile last year, or mow their weed infested lawns. screw them.

Yeah doing that in the driveway seems quite wrong, does he not have a garage if he wants to be doing that stuff? What I have a problem with is laws that prevent people from doing stuff that does not affect others, if it starts to affect others then perhaps it should be treated on a case per case bassis - not just made illegal. This guy should probably be told by cops to stop doing that in the open and so late at night.

Well that's the thing if someone is being obnoxious it should be treated as a case per case bassis, if cops get called then they tell him to stop. But don't make certain activities completely illegal, some people are actually responsible.

It's like the new drone laws, they're practically illegal now, just because of a few asshats. Stop punishing everyone and only punish the ones that actually cause problems.

I had to call the cops on my neighbour because he has ridiculously loud music at all hours of the day and I work shifts, but I would not want them to pass a law saying it's illegal to play music outside, just treat situations as required instead by issuing warnings and what not.

How exactly does that work in your mind? If it's not illegal, you have no way to punish them not to mention then it's reactive rather than proactive. How do you define "problems" if you don't have a law defining them. Try applying that logic to other laws?

You can drive however fast you want, as long as you don't hit anyone.
You can drive drunk as long as you don't hit anything.
You can run red lights, as long as you don't hit anyone.
You can impersonate a police officer, as long as you don't create problems.
You can fire weapons where ever and whenever you want, as long as you don't hit anyone.

What if you disagree on it being a problem? Does the officer responding get to arbitrarily decide what defines a problem? Yeah, you hit a guy, but he was an a-hole anyways so you're good to go.

Why do you think the meme "this is why we can't have nice things" is so popular?

It's called using common sense. Sadly common sense does not seem to exist in law. Everything is black or white, which is retarded.

I do agree that our speed limits are artificially set MUCH too low in many places, especially rural limmited access areas. It is plenty safe on many stretches of interstate to go 100-150mph. The limits are set so low just to bring in revenue.

They probably gave up cleaning because the squawking birds already destroyed their property value

What? No.

My neighborhood is 1/4 acre lots right in the middle of a largish city. There are a ton of common sense rules that exist for the benefit of everyone. You can't burn your trash. You can't raise livestock. You can't have a firing range in your back yard. You can't operate a business that generates hazardous waste. You can't poop in a hole. You can't have rock concerts. Doesn't matter if you make money at it or not.

If a person wants all the benefits of living in a civilized urban setting there are some things that have to be given up in exchange. Those who want to enjoy their freedumbz can still totally do so, they just have to go somewhere else.

This. And much better than I would have worded it.

The noise doesn't bother me. That chickens are disease vector bothers me. Histoplasmosis is no fun.

I've been raising chickens for years in a rural area with virtually all of my neighbors doing the same. I've never heard of anyone - man, woman, or child - getting sick. Chickens that are treated like shit will get sick, but chickens that live in a respectable habitat do not. Children are much more disease-prone than chickens.

Eggs from well treated hens are more nutritious than factory produced eggs. Factory eggs are so lacking that the hens are fed dyes so the egg yolks won't look even more washed out than they already do.
