They had an orange pinto with wood paneling.

My Dad had various big green boats.

Although they did have a nice brand new 69 camaro before all of us kids came along. Then they sold it for more room.

Don't know what happened to priorities and responsibility with parents these days. They have to have a new massive SUV every year, horrid gas mileage and wracked with debt to have a showy lifestyle for neighbors and friends. Sad to see such arrogance and pride come before your future planning and children.

My mom made my dad sell his '62 Vette because it didn't hold enough groceries 🙂

my mom had a 1971 chevy vega that she used until i got it as my first car when i learned to drive. so it was 1 year younger than I. it didnt start out as a beater, but when I got it, it was. it lasted about another year after i started driving it, but the doors were rusted through at the bottoms, so I could see the road when I was driving. then eventually the passenger side door wouldnt stay closed so we had to tie it with a rope. the last straw was when the brakes went out when i was driving on the highway. :O

still, she was my first car, and i loved her. 🙂

lol wow.

My dad has a book full of pictures he took of his cars. before my sisters and I were born they had a bunch of sports cars (US and foreign). Once my sisters were born my dad started driving cars from the dealerships (dad owned a car lots). My mom would drive huge cars. from cadillacs to Ford LTD's.

though her favorite where the old HUGE wagons or the huge full size vans.

it was funny actually. my mom was a tiny 4'11 maybe 100lbs heh

Not beaters by any means but interesting nevertheless.

My Dad's first car: 56 Ford Fairlane.
Picture from the internet.

I have old grainy black and white pictures of the car in my family photo album.

What a car.

Then there was a ford Comet and then this, 68 Dodge Polara, exact same color:

I was a teenager by then. We would take it at night without permission and go beat the shit out of it....LOL

They purchased new cars for the most part. First ( while I was around ) was a 60 delta 88, a beautiful low black big block beast.
Then a much lighter two tone 65 F85 with the 330.
Suddenly, Datsun!
68 truck
72 nickel and dime
74 B210
76 longbed truck
Dad had a few boats for towing his boats. 76 chev impala 4dr, something else I can't remember.
He had the rare and ugly dodge van/pickup with slant 6
mom drove that nickel and dime forever. Dad and I re-engined it while she was out of the country on vacation.
She replaced it with a year old 88 Accura.
Her last car was a 94 Legacy, I think.

I regrettably have to inform you the the Vega was considered one of the biggest POS's ever to be made by GM, it was their first attempt at an all-aluminum engine and it ended badly, if you got one to 75K without a major engine failure it was an accomplishment.

oh, i never said it was an amazing car or anything.

you just always remember your first 😉

I guess the truck my dad had was a beater. They sold it when I was about 5-6 but I remember that yellow Chevy Luv pickup.

Their Nissan Sentra Wagon was probably relegated to beater status after a failed attempt by my dad (and apparently by some mechanics afterwards) to get the air out of the cooling system after flushing it. I fondly remember it being the middle of summer and running the heater to keep the engine cool.

True, mine was a '64 Old's Dynamic'88, I had one of those Earl Scheib "I'll paint any car for $39.99!" paint jobs on it, they also painted half the hubcaps, parts of the chrome and bits of the windshield for free LOL. I tried to wax it once but the paint started coming off like mad!..

somebody had to show a vega some love 🙂
sis got one new at the same time we got the 510. Let's drive to Vegas with 2 little kids and whole slew of family, in the summer! No air conditioning!
Head warps on vega with all of 2000 miles on it, lets gasket go somewhere in the middle of the trip.
**9** people pile into the 510 while vega sits at some dealership, waiting on parts. 9.
2 toddlers who would alternately play nice, or go to war. one more small child and the rest adults.
I was not on that trip 😀
Next vega story. Sister is sitting in the middle of a 5 lane intersection waiting to turn left. Shifter comes off in her hand in neutral. That vega died while the 510 was just getting broken in🙂

Oh gosh, beater memories. We had like an '86 Cutlass that kept getting hit, it was like a magnet for people to run into. After like the fourth accident, we just spray painted it metallic brown and used red Monokote from our model airplane collection to patch up the taillight. It was awesome getting dropped off to school in that monster 😀

My parents always had pretty nice cars. My father bought Buick exclusively, and my mother's first car was a Buick. She later switched to Toyota. Me OTOH, have had almost nothing but beaters. My current Jeep was the nicest car I've had, but it's now a beater. It was three years old when I got it in 2000.
