Just when had THOUGHT I had seen it all, this one hits me.

I went to save a file in Netscape, the "Save As" dialog file list is reversed.

- Same thing in Internet Explorer
- Same thing in Explorer

A virus scan turned up nothing.

So - it looks like the glitch is internal to Windows.

Reinstalling is an option as is coming from a week-old set of backups. But I suspect all that is wrong is one glitched DLL.

Any suggestions?

O/S is Windows 98SE

Thanks in advance!

If you suspect a corrupted DLL, run System File Checker to check and replace.

Start | Run | Type "sfc"

Thanks for the tip.

I ran it, found 9 entries that were not identical to the originals. I've replaced those. Now, Explorer works correctly, but IE, Netscape and Winzip all still display the list backwards.

In that I need to do backups, I would rather restore from last week's know good system and resign this to an unsolved mystery.

Thanks for the assist!
