Apparently my graphix card is installed upside down, aka the fan and apparent "top" of the card are facing down when installed in my mobo. is this normal?

lol, yes that is normal, it's always been like that. The heatsink and fan are always facing the bottom. There's a Thermalright aftermarket VGA cooler that installs "backwards," that is, it turns around and sits on "top" of the back of the video card rather than the bottom.

We enthusiasts are used to ATX, which has our video cards "upside down".

Lots of prebuilts, some using BTX, many others just using almost Lian Li-like reversed ATX, have the video card "rightside up".

Its always saddened me that the prettiest part of the card gets wasted visually by sitting updside down. Was a shame btx didnt take off. Being stuck with ATX for so long has hindered innovation in motherboard design as well.

Really? Whats the use of being pretty if its locked inside a case so I can't admire how pretty it is all the time like my pretty PS3? So I imagine users always resort to crude method of opening the case to show off.

Video Cards aren't meant to be in a gallery.

Other then ISA and expansion cards on a BTX motherboard, cards have been 'upsidedown' for quite a few years.
