UPS Recommendation

I work for the federal government in DC and recently our building ewas without power for 2 days. The power shut down without warning.

I am interested in buying an Uninterruptible Power Supply so I won't lose data as others did. Knowing the dire budget shape the government is in, I will have to buy myself. What is a good brand and more importantly what is best bang for buck? Any vendors you can recommend?

I would be careful about plugging personally-owned equipment into the mains at work. You probably want to get permission beforehand.

As for brand, I'm a fan of APC. A 550VA unit like this one is more than enough for the typical office PC. Don't expect any UPS to bridge a 2 day power outage though!

FWIW I have been a big fan of APC also for many years. Earlier this week I picked up the 650VA unit at Best Buy on sale for 49.99 vs the regular price of 79.99. Saturday is the last day of this sale.

Concur with APC. I have two of them - one on each desktop - 1000 KVA each. All I want is graceful power down within 30 minutes of a power failure. So far, so good.

Like the others have said, APC makes good stuff. I would also recommend one of their units.

 Are you running a whole data center out of your house? Do you live next to a nuke plant?
